I am applying for several private schools and most of them require a mid year report. Does it matter to the GPA? My GPA is low because I have too many hard classes in my sophomore year and my UW is around 3.5…If they do look at the senior year’s grade that will be so helpful. I am looking for Tufts, Fordham, NYU, BU, Rice and UMich.
Midyear report is very important. For most students that will be the last piece of data adcoms have before making a decision. Some students do not apply ED because they want to improve their stats.
Thank you! And for public schools? Is it as important?
The answer is the same for public and private schools.
I would recommend not saying this as an explanation for your lowish GPA.
This is not universally true of all schools. However, I do know of several cases where the student was near a cutoff and the schools waited for mid-year senior years grades before admitting the student. In most of the cases that I know of the mid-year grades were very good and the student did get accepted soon after sending them in.
True. But it was too much for me as a sophomore still.
Thank you! It is very helpful. I have 4 APs this year but I believe I will do better.
