Does Middlebury give preference to minorities?

I am a dual US/Latino citizen. Very interested in Middlebury. I have good B+ and some A- grades and SAT and SAT II between 650 and 720. School probably a reach for me unless they care a lot about recruiting Latinos.
Any experience or suggestions with this?

Honestly I don't think that they have a preference for minorities...though I do believe that they might favor internationals. Not sure about this...but I am sure that you won't find info like this from the Midd site or any other college-related source!
Good luck with your application...hope to see you at Midd next year.

iqq...ddef...they definitely want to recruite hispanics..apply...dont be stupid and not.. i think u have a good chance!!!!

middlebury needs minorities. they have a strong international pool compared to other schools, but not so diverse ethnically. go for it (especially if you're a public school kid), but remember that all the rules still apply. work on your app as a whole (personally, i really want middlebury to be more diverse. i don't want to have to go into withdrawal after my high school)

Hey jesamemucho...are you middlebury Class of 09 or are you already there?

i'm not there yet (hence the high school comment)! i should have said so, it probably made me sound all 'pompous expert'-y, when in fact i am just doing some educated speculation. And, as I said, I have a personal interest in making middlebury more diverse. :)

however, the president also said to us (at admitted students day) that they are trying to have both a more ethnically diverse student body and a more diverse faculty but, due to their location, that tends to be difficult. so i drew my own conclusions--it's not cut-and-dry affirmative action, per se, but i would definitely think the whole 'plus factor' applies.

oh, and i think the reason it looks like there is a preference for int'l kids is a) a lot of int'l kids apply to midd (yay!) and b) seemingly lower grades in other countries/at int'l schools translate into better ones in the U.S. At my high school guidance office, there's a chart for grades and grade levels in major countries related to our grades here, and it is usually in the other country's favor.

Hey jesamemucho...can you check out where my high school rates? I'm from the intl sch yangon, in burma (it's a small hick school in the middle of a country that's in the middle of nowhere!).
Well...glad to hear that there are more intl students at midd...makes me fell more at home i guess!
anywayz...jesamemucho...what are you planning to major in and what was your first choice first year seminar?
I previously suggested that we should have a CC party when we get to Middlebury...but the chat group was asleep then! So...willing to divulge any info about yourself that'll help all of us recognize you when we get to freezing Vermont?!

first of all, GET ON FACEBOOK!! if you have your midd email address, you can register. then just run a search for jessamy (my last name is klapper..i would gag but i discovered that it makes for a very fun sn jessmakeitklapp...hehe)

otherwise, there's myspace:

http://www.myspace.com/tajessamie

that's me!

i should be fairly easy to recognize. once i've got a room i'll probably be playing all sorts of world music/weird music and driving everyone crazy lol.

i think my first choice seminar was close encounters with the middle east (then my second was humor in chinese literature lol-- i like to dabble in seriousness only).

as for your school...don't worry about it, it's over! also, i'm no longer at my high school AND it's just a chart for countries, not individual schools. the chart is for figuring out where to place kids from other countries. of course, they still mess this up all the time.

Oh you unforgiving soul...laugh all you want...but I have absolutely no idea what Facebook is. I know...why on earth did Midd actually agree to accept techno retard like me? Well...try to be understanding for a moment and take into consideration that Burma only got internet 2-3 years ago...pretty wacko huh?
Oh...saw your myspace. I dont use it...but I do use xanga...if you want to go to my site...just go to

www.xanga.com/owakzu

btw...I'm Akshay. Oh and I read your music tastes...sorry to say ours dont match at all. Whilst I mightnt look like it (dont like the way they dress)...I am a big fan of punk music. Though, to be fair, I do like Simon & Grafunkel!

I also love hip hop, classical, old-school rock, metal, rap, r & b etc. It's just the Backstreet Boys and Westlifes of this world that I can't stand!

If you want to see my ugly mug shot just go to:

Scroll down to the place where it shows the comments given. I'm the one next to the comment signed by "Akshay"...figures huh!

Btw...how do I activate my Midd e-mail acct? Slowly please...try to remember that I'm technologically illiterate!

wow, this is bizarre. i am used to being the technologically illiterate one. yesterday my friend came over to fix my computer, because i didn't know how to uninstall a toolbar. he said "oh, that's cute." but! apparently i have learned something after all these years. actually, the whole midd email thing...i think you go to any middlebury.edu site, then scroll down to the bottom where it says "webmail"....and then there are instructions BUT the real thing is that they send you a packet, and it tells you everything.

so if you didn't get that, i guess you just have to wait. facebook is just another thing like myspace, only it's just for us college kids, and you're in a special network with your school. go to thefacebook.com, enter in your midd email address, and then they'll guide you the rest of the way.

ACTUALLY! i have a xanga account, which is pretty much defunct. I use it only to read my friend's sites (stalkerish...i know). i'll subscribe to you.

and i like all kinds of music, provided it's good (well, so i'm a snob...you can't have everything)...so try me sometime! you may be surprised. i got lazy after a while and stopped listing artists i liked.

p.s that's not an ugly mug shot!! ::is disappointed::

p.p.s. don't you find it amusing that the kid who originally started this thread is no longer here, while we are just chatting away?

Let's chat! I am international US/Mexico/France/Peru
Anyone on the MOO trip in September?

Hey...you online?

Wow...that's a lot of intl...how can you be from all those places???

Well...I already introduced my self somewhere above...you can go to my site if you want.

Hey Jess (is that ok as short for Jessamy...I'm a really slow typist and it takes too long to type that out...wait I just wasted more time explaining that!)...are you going on MOO?

Sambouc...will you be there for intl orientation?

Born US (NY) Parents Mexican + French + Peruvian...lots of nationalities... Speak Spanish, French, and some Italian (SAT II 800)

Well jessamy...that's weird. You're disappointed that I'm not ugly! Well I'm sure you're a lot kinder than most of my friends...ha! Anywayz...posted this on the other thread but just copying it here so you can read it as well.
Oh and leave me a comment on my xanga.
