Does my club need to be related to what I want to study?

I want to start a designers(fashion) club at my school, and I even found some sponsors for it and stuff; however, I want to study computer engineering. They’re not related to each other at all, and I plan on working at a tailor shop over the summer break. So I’m worried that I’ll be wasting my time on something like this rather than a computer engineering internship. Would the club look bad on my application, should I not start it?

It definitely wouldn’t look bad on your application. Starting a club shows passion and leadership and is very unique. And you are only young once, so if this is something you really want to do, go for it!
To my knowledge, however, most colleges require an engineering internship. And the internship definitely helps jump start your future career. I would make getting an internship your priority. There are sometimes options to take a semester off and work as an intern during the school year. It’s all about balance. Best of luck to you!

Thank you, do you think I could do the internship next year(I’m a sophomore now), though?

Most colleges certainly don’t require an engineering internship as a High Schooler!

I can say this because I do alumni interviews for a college and I see their resumes for engineering and i most certainly don’t see internships. This is because you have no skills in engineering yet. Firms hire College Juniors for internships, not HSers.

What they do look for is involvement and leadership which you are doing. This is a great time to explore your hobby. If there are CS classes at your HS then take them. If there is a CS club then check it out as well.
