Does NC State offer merit scholarships?

Hi all, my son was accepted into the college of engineering (Whoo-hoo!) but did not make the cut for the Parks Scholarship. Does NC State give merit money? This is one of his top choices but its hard to justify the out of state tuition when he is getting money from other schools.

Unfortunately NCSU doesn’t have much merit aid to give. Most of their aid is need-based but there are some smaller scholarships. When my older d was accepted to NCSU Engineering a few years ago, we had not lived in NC for quite a year yet when the aid package came out so they processed her as oos. She received a sizable grant and a small ($2,000 or so) engineering scholarship in the package. The cost would have been quite reasonable. We never found out what it would have cost as an in-state student as she decided to go elsewhere. You’ll probably just have to wait until the fa package comes out to see what it will actually cost.

Here’s a link to the Scholarships for High School students page: [North Carolina State University :: Office of Scholarships and Financial Aid](http://www7.acs.ncsu.edu/financial_aid/schphs.html)

Any chance he could qualify for the Chancellor’s Leadership Scholarship? That application is not due until March 1st.

No he wouldn’t qualify for the Chancellor’s Scholarship-we fall into that lovely category of folks who don’t qualify for need based money but also don’t have $40K laying around to give him every year. He was offered $2500 from the Paper Science Engineering department but he is wanting to do Mechanical.

I’m in Paper Science & Engineering and I love it, but I understand it’s not for everyone.

This ([Scholarships for Freshmen and Transfer Students](http://www.engr.ncsu.edu/undergrad/scholarships/future.php)) may be an interesting read. I don’t know if you’ve seen it yet.

Thanks for that link ncstatefreshman! Will be interesting to see if he gets anymore offers.
