Does NHS qualify as Leadership

On the Cal State application, under “Supporting Information” and then “Extracurricular Programs Hours of Participation and Leadership”, my son reported a certain number of hours spent on ECs. The question after that says “Did you hold or have you held any leadership positions in those activities, e.g. class president, club president, team captain, yearbook editor, etc.?”

His ECs were mainly volunteering a school for autistic teens, where he leads by example, and working as a lifeguard. He listed these 2 things on his NHS application under “Leadership” and got in. So would it be accurate to check “Yes” on the Cal State app?

In other words, he hasn’t held a title like the examples the form gives. But since these leadership activities qualified him for NHS, is that ok?

I think they are looking for an actual leadership / officer position here, where they were in charge of organizing and leading a group of students but whatever you are comfortable with I guess.
