Hey guys, I’m a current freshman applying for Fall 2017 admission as a sophomore. My first semester GPA was 3.92, but my midterm grade this semester is 3.72. Do you think if I were to not send in and optional midterm report, it would hurt my chances? Especially given that I only have one semester of college grades?
Shameless self-bump :>
I did literally the same exact thing. Personally, I wouldn’t think so, but really check with your office about this.
I’d submit it if both semesters are better than your high school GPA.
3 has it: the fewer college grades, the harder they will look at your high school record. In addition, sending in the optional report demonstrates continuing interest.
As in regular admissions, rigor counts. So they will take into account whether your GPA dropped due to organic chemistry or underwater basket weaving.
Thanks for the feedback everyone! It turns out the midterm grades my teachers posted online were literally my grades on the midterm, not factoring in hw, participation, quizzes etc, so I ended up actually having a 3.85 and sending it in, lol. I’m hoping that the fact that I’m taking an extra honors course and 6 courses total this semester will help them look past the slight drop.
Also tbh underwater basket weaving sounds like something I’d be worse at than chem
