Does not taking many honors/AP classes destroy your chances?

My school offers basically every honors/AP there is. The problem though is that through junior year I have only taken 1 honors class and 1 AP class. From what I hear/read, if your course load is not "rigorous," your chance of acceptance to good schools (top 50ish) is slim at best.

My gpa is 4.0UW, 4.06W, and 4.125UC

Basically, should I look at top 50ish schools or should I not even bother?

Thanks!

This is certainly a tough situation, on one hand you have perfect/near perfect GPA, but your not taking a rigorous course load and colleges could perceive that as you being lazy, whether you are or not.

I’m afraid your chances are extremely low. Is there any reason why you didn’t take more APs?

I guess there really isn’t a good reason why I haven’t. The top 50 thing was a guess though, my main two choices are UCSB and UCD. I’m taking two AP’s and 1 honors next year, if that in anyway might salvage my chances.

UC Davis is something like 47th, and I’d say you have a decent shot at it. UCSB too.

Yeah, I’d say rigor is sometimes more important than grades

What are your SAT scores? You’re probably in at UCSB and UCD and the UCs below that are safeties as long as your SAT scores are halfway decent.

680m, 660cr, 600w ://

Did you avoid taking a rigorous course load out of fear?

Pretty much, I have a weird anxiety problem.

I know people who have gone to Columbia and Yale with zero AP courses. However, I am not sure if the school offered it to begin with.
Well your GPA is high, my UW is 87 and W is like 98. Although I have taken the toughest courses, I am worried because my GPA is too low.

Well, when you apply you can mention (in the personal statement or “anything else you want us to know” section of the UC ap) how you have overcome your anxieties and are now doing great with a challenging course load in order to maximize your potential and prepare for UC level studies. Show growth and strength.

thanks for the advice :)
