Does Princeton Review provide good practice?

After finished with the BB, would it be a good idea to practice from Princeton Review practice tests?

PR or Barrons are probably the next best thing after the BB (besides other past tests, the OC, etc.)

I own every single prep book that exists on the SAT. Personally, I find the PR books, absolutely horrid. The McGraw Hill SAT practice tests book is probably the best thing after the BB with the Kaplan 12 practice tests following behind it.

I heard that McGraw Hill has great practice for math, is it true though?

I thought Kaplan was really bad

What section specifically?

McGraw Hill has really inaccurate CR sections. They’re either way too easy or way too hard.

@looseyourself the math section, anything besides dr.chungs? That can’t be the only thing aviable for math that’s good.

Sorry I spelt your name wrong lol. LoseYourself*

Hossain, I am using RR for math (even I have yet to hear anyone on CC recommend it) and I find it helpful in that it shows you how to move away from traditional, classroom type approaches.

PR is not good at all my friend, ive said this over and over. It’s practice tests are highly unreliable and inaccurate. Only use the BB for practice tests but if you need supplements of problems before taking a practice test use Dr. Chungs or Grubers (for math!) and Barron for (W+CR /or math as well).

BB and Barron’s are reliable for all sections.
Chungs and Grubers are reliable for math
DirectHits is reliable for CR.
Silverturtle’s sticky thread is great for all of em, especially writing.

@Katrina what’s “RR”, and @hero which barrons book do you suggest getting for math?

RR is rocketreview.

It has some math review, but mostly just tactics.
I took the math section practice w/o using it, and i got 610( though i admit MOST of the wrong answers were just “silly” mistakes)

After following the tactics rigidly (They are not MAGICAL i ll admit. most of them are just ones you use, but probably aren’t TOO conscious about using them) I raised it to a 750

^

but its REALLY expensive right?

Woah…it’s DAMN expensive

yeah i am sorry, i got mine from the library :3

@Hossain

for Math, i usually recommend Chungs (for 650 and up scorers) and Gruber’s (650 and lower)

But if you want Barron’s get Barron’s 2400, i got it from Amazon for around 10 bucks, very challenging but rewarding!

I also use Grubers. Learn with Gruber’s, apply it to Barrons. Or do opposite, they’re both reliable!

I actually have and completed all the critical reading and math examples, practice questions and grand mixtures in the barrons 2400 book. But I still feel when I attack the BB math section i get the hard questions wrong or I’m taking too much time on them possibly…uhggg I hate that feelig

What’s the difference between regular barrons and barrons 2400? Which would be better?

^Regular Barron’s has a lot more practice problems. The regular Barron’s book is targeted at people who don’t have a solid foundation - it presents detailed reviews of everything on the SAT.

The sheer number of practice problems the regular Barron’s book offers is nice though :).

On the other hand, the Barron’s 2400 book assumes that you have a solid grasp of the basic concepts and delves straight into some very hard problems.

Which would be better? It boils down to how your scoring. If your score is above 2000, then you should get the Barron’s 2400 book.

Nevertheless, you may wish to give the Barron’s 2400 book a “test drive” in the book store first. The book’s problems were difficult, even for me :)!
