Does religion matter?

I submitted my pre-application awhile ago and when they asked for my religion, I put none because I'm an atheist. Is this question just so they can say "This school is not made up of Catholics" or do they actually consider it at all during admissions? This is the only school that has asked for my religion so it just made me wonder. Thanks.

I don't think it really matters...

sure it does..........they don't want a school supported by catholics with all jews and hindu students. In the main it isn't the primary reason for the question but trust me they will have a fair share of kids from Jesuit or Catholic HS.

Well I'm Catholic and it seems that alot of the kids are also catholics
- But again im not on the admission board.. But one thing that the board looks into "does the applicant FIT into Georgetown" and maybe not being one will be hard?
(my interviewer was also catholic)

I am an agnostic leaning toward atheism, and I made lucid this point on my application. There are plenty of students, and some professors, here who are atheist or agnostic.

Thanks for the responses guys. I don't have a definite answer I guess :) but it's good to hear your thoughts.

i consider myself agnostic i guess.....but pretty open minded... but i think i put protestant on that part of the app

I'm a Protestant and 25% or so of Gtown are of similar faith, so I'm not sure it really matters... They sure must give priority to catholics though, or have to meet a quota, but they aren't Notre Dame.

ah, ok, thanks.. why whats the deal w/ ND?

Supposedly, it doesn't matter. But, who knows? It is not like they will tell you that they reject you because of your religion.

ND?

notre dame

ah, i see. thanks.

but yeah lol, i do wonder how much it is considered, like esp if someone is on the fence.

I'm sure it plays a role for on the fence. Notre Dames, as in they are more akin to the Catholic roots. 80% is Catholic as oppossed to Gtown's 50% or so. I know every year my school sends a cohort of Catholics to ND. We send the occassional non-Catholic, but it is just ND has a more Catholic "feel" I suppose. That or nobody likes Indiana.

hahahaha ah i see

well georgetown prefers kids from parochial schools over public schools so obviously it makes some sort of difference

yup, i believe it, noooo oneeee at all was admitted from my school last year..... gulp

well 50% is pretty high. I'm really involve in my (Catholic) Parish so hopefully thats good. I'm also the only one who have probly applied to gtown from my church

if anyone cares...im roman catholic.

in unrelated news, my nose just grew a foot.

...ok maybe not a foot but I definitely notice some increase here.
