This discussion accidentally got merged into another one, so I am splitting it back out.

Don’t. Rice HATES additional materials. My friend with WAY stronger EC’s and stats than me got rejected. I’m guessing it’s because he sent in a supplemental video when rice told him they didn’t want one, and an additional rec letter. I wouldn’t do it, but your choice. I was accepted last year and it was my first choice. Unfortunately, cost precluded me from attending

If you believe that these materials will significantly boost your application, mail them. However, they do not guarantee that they will read all of them (The admission representative told me this).

Ugh, ok, the common app word count was really restrictive so I just wanted to send in my resume to clarify some of my ECs.

@noel597 - where does Rice state that they discourage extra materials? I was under the impression that it wasn’t necessary but was accepted and could be beneficial IF it was something special.

I emailed them last year asking to submit an music supplement and CS research project and they said they don’t have time to look at extra materials.

Since I want to double major in visual art I asked a Rice representative if I could send pictures of some art pieces that I have done. I emailed them to the admissions office and requested that they add them to my file and they replied saying that they added them. It’s possible that they only accepted it because pictures are fairly easy to review compared to the materials mentioned in the above post.

Would it be considered too much if I submitted my resume? It explains a lot of the leadership positions I was in and my ECs. I couldn’t fit all of it into Common App’s word count…

Also if I have a really good teacher rec and Common App won’t let me submit more, should I mail it anyways?? I’m not talking about submitting an extravagant amount. It’s one extra letter with my required core teacher letters… I really think it could help my application…

@noel597 and @fluxflow - Thanks. Although im more confused as to what the official policy is now

I just emailed them and they said “you are welcome to send additional materials”

so I think I’m going to send my academic resume that’ll elaborate on some of my ECs…

I won’t send the additional letter of rec so I won’t have to incur the wrath of eexcessive materials

My son emailed admission office a while back and they said don’t send.

Nutmom - did you ask about anything in specific?

Rice should publish an official policy as this is confusing.
