Does second semester matter?

Hi, I'm applying to top public engineering schools (purdue, UIUC, Uoft, texas a&m, penn state, etc..) OOS/international
i was wondering if senior year second semester matters for admission as deadline is before second semester.
the reason I'm asking is because i have calculus second semester and i didn't do very well in math 12 (86% slacked off).

I'm scared that this low math mark will affect my admissions.. will they "disregard" it if i have phenomenal marks in first semester senior year in AP physics and Ap chem. and fairly good marks in junior year honours chem and phys?
ALSO, there was a teacher strike (BC, canada) and my marks will be out later.. about early feb. will this affect admission?

basically what I'm saying is, Will they look only at first semester gr 12 even though my marks come out later and all of gr 11 to determine admission?

if not, what do they use for admission in terms of marks?

thanks

Colleges will use anything up to date. But you’re seriously mistaken if you think a 86% is a detriment.

second semester senior year matters in that if your grades drop significantly (Ds or Fs) you can get rescinded.

@thatdudeinhs‌: Don’t slack off in your last secondary school semester. While it is somewhat unusual, accepted freshmen have had their admission rescinded/suspended due to poor grades. <a href=“Acceptance Suspended :'( - Dartmouth College - College Confidential Forums”>http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/dartmouth-college/1669060-acceptance-suspended-p1.html</a> is a lengthy CC thread, which indicates that an admitted Dartmouth '18 freshman’s enrollment was revoked, although he will apparently be allowed to matriculate with Dartmouth '19, in September 2015.

I know of two students whose applications to one Ivy were rescinded this past spring after second semester grades were released. Especially if it is a year when that college may have had more students than expected accept their acceptance… That being said, no one rescinds an acceptance for a student who suddenly gets Bs… but several Cs? Ds? yes…

oh thanks! i don’t plan to slack off second semester. I’m just scared about admission! haha

There are around 50 students got rescinded from UMich every year, not sure if that is from CoE alone or for the whole school though. I got that info from the CoE info session at UMich. Just make sure your senior final report would not have too many Cs or anything lower.

Last year as the end of second semester approached there were all sorts of posts on various CC threads regarding poor grades and recission of admissions. To sum it up, although there’s a lot of talk about acceptances getting rescinded it is very very rare. You’d be safe with a ‘C’ in Calculus second semester of your senior year. A ‘D’ however could be problematic.

@AsleepAtTheWheel‌ , would you say my 86% in math 12 is sufficient for admission for CoE?
