My son has taken the ACT twice recently, June and December, 34 both times, 35 superscore. It is my hope that he might take advantage of some of the good merit scholarships that are offered by schools like Tulane and Miami, among others.
Would it be a good idea to send the score report or reports now, or wait a few months. My son plans to take the ACT again in February in hopes of getting a 35 in order to win a local award, so I could wait until early March to send. Just wondering when to try to get on their radar screens as we are about to start visiting campuses.
Obviously you need to pay attn. to the scholarship deadlines – see if the target schools have early visits or programs or merit scholarship interviews for top scholars.
Sending them early MIGHT have them meet you halfway. Your son’s scores will get them to notice --that won’t be a concern. Best of luck!
It depends on the school. My son was granted provisional acceptance to one of his schools as a junior because he sent his scores as a junior. He was also eligible for guaranteed scholarship opportunities when his scores were sent with a scholarship application by his GC. You may want to see if any of the schools he’s interested in offer these opportunities.
Thanks for the comments. I just thought the arrival of the scores might serve as an “expression of interest.” We’re going to have to start making some visits soon, so I imagine we’ll just be contacting some of them. I did send two score reports to Miami since they superscore and their merit aid is far from automatic.
For anyone interested, as I mentioned I sent the ACT scores to Miami on an order which was placed three days ago. Today my son got an email thanking him for his interest. It was auto-generated, since he got two of them (he sent two reports). The email says they will be sending him invitations to various events. So it did what I wanted it to do.
