I have had two amazing offers of internships this summer in two very prestigious marketing companies. I plan to earn my degree in business, so I believe this will help me immensely in college. I am currently a rising freshman, still not done with my eighth grade year, but am considered by most to be much more mature and efficient than my years.

Do the internships, if I accept, count on my college applications, or do they have to be at least in the summer of rising sophomore year to count? The offers still stand next summer....It's just that I'm pretty sure I'll be really busy with SATs and what not in junior and senior year, and hope to have at least two years internship experience...

Also, I start working at one of Korea's largest hospitals this summer to promote Johnson and Johnson Medical's new diabetes product. Will this too count in my college apps?

Thank you! :)

On the common app, only things done after 9th grade can be put down.

So anything done even during ninth grade doesn't count? I thought the common apps asked for everything from ninth grade, and was wondering if the summer before was considered ninth grade?

Do it because you want to and it's a good learning experience, not because it'll "look good" on a college app. Besides, you'll probably have more interesting things to put on your app by then.

(You could intern between junior and senior year...unless you really want to study for SATs 8 hrs/day instead...)

hmm i say you can still put it down. i put down what i've done in 05 =]

I agree. You can use it.

I don't think you're supposed to use it, but if you continue with the internships for the next few summers, you can always say "X internship, X years." I'm not putting down a program I did the summer prior to ninth grade, but the subject matter (creative writing) will hopefully carry over into my other activities.

Who would believe an eighth grader would be selected for an internship based on merit? What could you possibly do in the eighth grade summer that would have any impact in your future career? My eighth daughter is still watching Disney. She will start studying for SATs (maybe), but would I trust her with any business matters, NO.

Relax, go to some good movies, friends' beach house, take up a sport, theater, dance, just try to be a kid. No one is going to take your seriously as an eighth grade intern. Try to be a kid a bit longer.

It's a good idea to do things like that, and there may be a place to mention it in your college applications. But maybe later you will do other noteworthy things, and then it will be no loss not to particularly bring this up.
