Does anyone know if the summer before 9th grade counts for college apps?

Most likely depending on what it is regarding. In the summer, students are considered to be in the grade they will be entering in the Fall. Im not sure what program you attended but it would most likely “count” for college applications.

Short answer is yes.

Really? I thought the answer would be no.

It does count, as far as I know, no school will ask you a question about summer before freshman year on your app, but you can include the experience in an essay and have it count as a part of an essay.

Hey are you guys going to any good programs the summer before 9th grade? Please tell if you are!!!

I’ll be heading into my sophomore year this fall, and last summer I went to China (my home country) and studied piano there. Not a set program, and not too prestigious, but it definitely did teach me a lot.

I don’t think I will put it on my apps though. Hopefully by senior year I’ll have a much wider variety of activities to write about!

thanks raiderade.
I haven’t thought that far yet. I’m going to CTY for fun and learning. If I like it my parents said I could go again next year. if not then bye bye.

Yep, it counts. My older sister volunteered 300+ hours that summer, and it would have been a complete shame if her experience couldn’t have been referred to on the application. =P

Not bashing CTY, since some of my friends have gone, but was just wondering what it looks like on a college app / for admissions. As far as I’ve heard it’s just kinda neutral - but I don’t really know.

Shmluza, CTY is so awesome! I can’t imagine that you wouldn’t love it. What site are you going to?

im going to great books

raiderade, I will do etymologies at JHU @Baltimore. (only because it’s convenient based on our family plan.) I look forward to it. Are weekends fun? did you get homesick at all?

Before I took the SAT, my parents said if I didn’t pass they might let me go to Great Books. We heard that was a nice camp also, but MA is too far for us.

okay cool. thanks for the feedback. i was going to do etymologies but 3 weeks is a little long for me this summer
