I plan to take the SAT 4 times (I want my score to be as high as possible). Will colleges look down upon me if I do this? Would 3 times be better? what's the limit on the number of times I should take the test??

Thanks

I wouldn’t take it more than 3 times. But if you feel you’ll get a better score each time, then go for it.

Well the colleges wouldn’t know unless you sent all of your scores right?
I personally wouldn’t take the same test more than twice since I prep a lot each time so if I’m not getting my “ideal” score by the second time I probably never will (and it won’t be worth my time to try again). It all depends on how much you prep, how much you’re improving, how much you need a better score, etc.

@mineO3O that’s true…but some colleges require you to send scores from all sittings

It only looks obsessive if you can’t use score choice IMHO.

Don’t take it more than 2 really. Very few people improve on their 3rd test, unless you practiced a LOT between your 2nd and 3rd test and have seen your score improve on practice tests…
It depends on what your previous scores were, what the increases were, what you did differently this time, and if there were any circumstances surrounding the other tests (ex one was taken freshman year or you were sick at one testing).
My daughter took it 4 times and was admitted to / waitlisted by some very good schools. I wouldn’t worry about seeming obsessive.
A perennial POOR advice is one that includes “no more than X times”. Nobody gets brownies for a lower score in fewer attempts. All that matters is the final or super score.
