Hey guys,
I applied to Princeton EA and they didn't tell me I was missing my transcript, but apparently all my peers have been using the Parchment service to send their transcripts. I was under the impression that it was part of what my counselor submitted for school forms- am I wrong??

If your school uses parchment then your counselor does not send your transcript. You request your school to upload the transcript to your parchment account. Once its uploaded, you send it to as many schools as you like for $10 each. You should have already sent one although it sounds like you have not done this. I recommend emailing or calling Princeton’s admissions office ASAP and explaining the issue. If you don’t already have a parchment account create one now, request your transcript, wait for it to be uploaded, and send it right away. I am surprised that Princeton’s admissions office didn’t already see this error but its best to correct it before it becomes a problem.

And just so you know, during your senior year most people will send a total of three transcripts to each school. One with just your freshman, sophomore, and junior grades, another with your first semester senior grades, and a final transcripts with all eight semesters of grades.

I was literally just about to post this topic, so thank you for making it easier for me, lol.

I applied to Princeton RD a few days ago, and it looks like they’ve already gotten my official transcript. Curious - I never gave a transcript request to the registrar at my school, so it would appear that whatever my counselor uploaded to the school forms was adequate. shrug Once winter break is over, though, I definitely want to check with both my counselor and my schools to make sure it’s all good.

My school doesn’t use parchment, for what it’s worth… I have no idea what that even is, but it sounds like your situation is probably a bit different from mine.

My school has parchment, but my transcript was included in my school report!

To stupiddorkyidiot: If your school doesn’t use parchment or any other transcript delivery site then chances are your school counselor are in charge of sending your transcript. It works differently at each school. If you have any concerns about transcript delivery contact your school college/guidance counselor and/or the university admissions office.

To runnergurl: Sometimes schools just use parchment as a way for the student to check their transcripts for errors. While other schools like mine actually have you send it to each school through parchment. My guess is that your school uses parchment for schools that are not on the common application. For common app schools it sounds like the counselors can send the school report along with the transcript. But I would check with your counselor just to make sure.

The thing is, I got deferred EA from princeton, and they never sent me an email saying I was missing my transcript. If they didn’t get it, wouldn’t they have rejected me straight out? So I’m wondering if my counselor just attached the transcript to the school report, AND if its counted as an official transcript. From runnergurl, I think her case is the same as mine but verification would be awesome.

@Malixie: oh that sounds like it is probably the cause. There is a 'Send transcripts through Parchment!" on my school’s website. But that could very well be directed towards non-Common app schools.

Still, if anyone thinks I have reason to worry please comment!

It is very likely that your counselor did send your transcript and it would be considered official if so. You mentioned before that your friends sent their transcripts through parchment. Do you know if the schools that they applied to were common application schools? If they were not that might be the difference. The only thing I don’t understand is why a school would use different methods of sending transcripts without informing the students.

My friends applied to NYU and Emory and got in, but when I asked them they said they didn’t talk to their counselors about the application process at all. Did the policy change recently? because my sister who is 2 years older than me said she used parchment for all the colleges, and I know my friends (they are twins) have a sister who was the same grade as mine so they may have just gotten the whole process from her.

Edit: I got this email from princeton so i think im fine for the other colleges im applying to?
"Dear Richard,

Your application for admission to Princeton University is complete, and we look forward to reviewing it."

I applied to several colleges a few months ago and used parchment for all of them. Parchment is an independent website that can only send your transcript when your high school/secondary school has uploaded it and given permission to send it. NYU and Emory are both on the common application so my earlier theory does not apply. My entire school uses parchment and so do my friends schools. I have honestly never heard of a school using two completely different methods to send transcripts but it can happen I guess.

Try looking on your schools or colleges counselors website. Contact other friends who didn’t use parchment and see if their transcripts arrived. Try to confirm with Princeton that your transcript arrived. If you applied EA you should have access to a Princeton account/portal with information on application materials. And I might have mentioned this before but contact the counselor that sent your transcript.

buohuang, did you check the portal for Princeton and did it sat your transcript was submitted? Now I’m worried haha

I checked my Princeton application status after I submitted it for EA and it said it was complete. There wasn’t a checklist or anything.

Yeah bc my colleges it says the transcript is submitted (it’s lists each item separately) and I hope it’s the case haha

Nevermind I’m good.
"Application Confirmation

If you have provided us with an email address, you will receive a confirmation notice when we have received your application and another notice when we have received all required supporting materials. Applicants who don’t provide email addresses will be contacted by regular mail. If your application is incomplete, we will let you know which pieces are missing. Beginning in October, you also may track the completeness of your application online, after registering using the PIN and email address you listed on your application."

I got both of the emails so I’m pretty sure im okay

Dont’ worry! If the portal indicated that their were no problems then your transcript was sent. There should have been a checklist of materials. Go through that again and make sure transcript is checked off as arrived. But honestly, it sounds like you are fine. You would have gotten a notification for a problem like that.

To Runnergurl: Don’t worry either! If your transcript was included in your school report then it is an official transcript that the college will consider. Right now I can’t explain why your counselor chose this method but its done and thats all that matters. There is nothing to worry about!

Thanks for the help malixie ^^

i would like to ask if the transcript can be scanned and uploaded to the common app?
