hey I notice that the minimum for Personal essay was 250 words, but is there a max!?!!?

Don’t go above 700, and try to stay between 450 and 600 if you can. That’s not written anywhere, but it seems to be the consensus.

Hmmm 700 seems to be a bit short… Would 1000 words be way too much??

^ No, that is not a bit short. I think it is relatively solid, if you ask me. 1000 is a bit to long, but if you are good enough, then go for it. If not, I don’t mind, becasue you will be one less applicant to go through when admission comes along. ;)

Lol thanks for your frank statement

If every single word of those 1000 helps the admissions officer know you better, go for it. Otherwise, your essay risks getting an eyeroll and a subsequent toss into the garbage. ;)

i’ve heard 600 quoted as the ideal length. no, it doesn’t have a max.

hmmm, yea I guess it depends on what one is gonna talk about in one’s esasy that really determines length. I’ll probably hit near 800-900 and then cut everything down to around 600-750

Do admissions officers look down a lot on longer essays? Mine’s a little over 900 and I’ve already cut some down! I don’t know what else I could take out. Will they really set mine aside and not even give me a chance? =[

This is scaring me, I think I might try to find a new topic but I don’t think it’ll be as good. Great…

Common App has no maximum other than file size limit, but schools where you’re applying might have word limits.
