I know that the score considered is out of 1600 (CR +M) but how much weight does the writing score have? Is it given as little weight as an SAT subject test? Less? Or almost as much as the other two sections?

Please answer only if you know

thanks yall

columbia considers the writing score nowadays - and looks at you out of 2400. so it would consider it as much as the other two sections.

some schools still don’t treat the writing section as valid, and look at you out of 1600. i forget which ivies fall into this group.

and i should note that the SAT subject tests mean a lot, especially to a school like columbia that wants to parse the differences out between students with great scores and good grades. personally i think the SAT subject tests mean a lot more, sure you can’t bomb the SAT I, but having great subject tests helps you stand out. especially if they speak to an interest to major in something.

from a holistic point of view, also, there is no differentiation between X meaning more than Y in order to admit you; the whole package has to sing together. in general, however, i like to divide things into a) stuff that proves you are on par, b) stuff that helps you stand out in a crowd. sat and gpa fall into category a. you wont be admitted because of them, but you wont be admitted without them. great letters of rec, sat ii, ap/ib scores, outside activities/research. that is what gets you admitted. you need a balance, however, of both a and b otherwise your app doesn’t stand a chance.
