I am applying to the College of St. Benedict -- a small private college in MN. They have rolling admissions, but you can apply by an early deadline (Dec. 1st) in order to get priority consideration for scholarship awards. I could use the scholarship money, so I want to apply early, but I'm not sure if this breaks my SCEA agreement with Yale.

This is what the St. Ben's admissions website says:
Admission and scholarship decisions will be mailed by December 20 to students who have completed applications by December 1. Students applying after December 1 will be notified of the admission and scholarship decision on a rolling basis beginning January 15. (The decision is non-binding)

I emailed my region's admissions officer at Yale to ask him if it was okay, and he said: "If its rolling admissions at this private college, then by all means it will be fine" I don't know how to interpert his answer, because I don't know if St. Ben's still constitutes "rolling admissions" (since it has an early deadline).

Is it safe to say that I wouldn't be breaking the SCEA agreement by applying to St. Ben's before Dec. 1st?

I know that it's okay to apply to public universities with rolling admissions, but since St. Ben's is private, I'm really confused.

I took a second look, and the St. Ben's app. says:
"December 1 Early Action application date for scholarships. Scholarship decisions will be mailed by December 20 to students who have completed applications by December 1. Students applying after December 1 will be notified of the admission and scholarship decision on a rolling basis beginning January 15."

Since it actually calls December 1st an Early Action application date, is it still considered Early Rolling, or is it truly Early Action? I'm beginning to think that maybe I should just wait until after Dec. 1st, just to be safe, although it would really be nice to have priority scholarship consideration. AHHH, so many technicalities, it's driving me nuts, haha! Thanks for your help though, everyone!

clearly the Early deadline is not to accommodate scholarship applicants. The exception of applying early for scholarship consideration is negated by the statement you posted. I'd say you need to wait. I hope you have posted the wording correctly......check and not just from your memory as it does make a difference.
