So I was wondering, does it look bad to a school you are applying to if they know you used another school's supplement in their application? So basically I really, really like my Penn supplement (page 217 of autobiography). I think it definitely adds a lot to my application in terms of who I am as a person and my interests and such. Because it is such a specific prompt, schools will know that it is the Penn supplement. So say if I were to send it as a supplementary essay (already have two others) to like Yale, will that reflect poorly upon me, even though the essay is supplementary? I know it sounds kind of confusing, but any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks guys.

As long as you don’t make reference to the other school in your essay and it still fits the criteria - i say go for it.

I used the same essay for every supplement, but just changed it around to answer each individual question.

They probably won’t even read it or think you sent it to the wrong school. The admission offices just have way too much to read to bother with something was not even requested. If you get lucky, they will take it into consideration, but I’m not sure if it is a plus for them to know you are “loving” another university as much as “theirs”.

Thanks for the responses.

@allyalunes: Yeah, I can definitely see how that might happen, however, I would hope that the actual writing and content of the supplement would attract more focus than any inclination they might have that this supplement was for another school.

Any other opinions?
