Does THIS mean anything?

Hello All,

I am an international student applying for financial aid. I just received an email from Cornell asking for additional financial aid materials. Does this mean anything? At this time, it seems to me that only those admitted will be asked for additional FA materials. Hopefully I'm not being too optimistic ><.

Nope. Financial Aid and admissions are separate.

I’m not so sure either way, but I have a hard time believing the FA department would bother to go through 30,000+ applicants

The FA department won’t waste time to ask you for additional financial aid materials unless they are interested in admitting you. I would take it as a very good sign. Good luck.

^I don’t think that’s true. Columbia’s FA aid office sent out emails to all applicants asking for more FA info.

Not all 30k+ applicants apply for FA, maybe 50%.

Cornell has need-blind admissions and as such, they keep admissions and Financial Aid separate. That said, I’m not sure that applies to International students, so it could be a good sign, however, I think that doesn’t impact admissions so much as simply reduce the financial aid you get.

It also doesn’t take that much time to create a financial aid package, pretty fast actually, so I don’t think it means much.
