Does this mean I got in..

I’m just gonna throw out there that it would suck if UD rejected people who got this e-mail.

I got the e-mail and I applied to honors.

Is it bad if I got this email and have nothing new to report since I applied?

btw, there sure is alot of us who recieved this email, hopefully it does mean something!!

Trying to put it all in perspective. Only 11 people have posted that they received this email and 26,000 people applied for admissions so without really knowing ALL the facts it is hard to know if this was a “mass” mailing. Many people don’t even use this site and until someone posts that they didn’t receive the email we will never know if it means anything more than please update us. With that being said I completely agree with SaintSaens, what a huge letdown and horrible way to handle something if the end result is going to be a rejection.

I received an email yesterday too. Didn’t apply to Honors, and UD was kind of off my radar because I’ve heard that their aid for OOS students is not very good. I’ll definitely send some new info to them, and maybe I’ll be pleasantly surprised.

Stats:
GPA: 3.65 UW, 4.6W
SATs: 740 CR, 720 M, 680 W (also some pretty good SAT IIs)

EDIT: Applied for Chemical Engineering.

within my school, 20 people applied to UDEL. So far I only know of 3 including myself who got this email. and i do know of some that did NOT get an email at all. My guidance counselor says it sounds like a “likely” email. I really hope so!

In order to dispel the “mass mailing” theory, and to give hope to all of you who have received this email, I am reporting, unfortunately, that my daughter did not.

Here are some details for those out there trying to discover the reasoning or uncover the theory behind this cryptic communication from UD: My daughter, a NJ resident, did not apply to honors, had her paperwork and portfolio submitted well before the due date, but did have her online status updated a few weeks ago when others were also posting a status change.

Last year UD took a lot of heat for the late response date in comparison with other schools. Perhaps this new email is a just a way of bridging the gap with students who will be admitted so they remain interested in UD during the long month when they are receiving decisions from other schools. My D is OOS and did receive what we consider a generous scholarship from UD, but didn’t receive an email. The weekend before (Sunday, actually) before March 15 when the letters were mailed, she was able to log on to the accepted students site, see her acceptance, the spiffy and touching video, as well as her financial aid package. The letter came in the mail ON the 15th.

D got email as well. She applied honors very early, no other communication until now. We are OOS.

I have to agree with zoosermom. UD probably wants to keep the more qualified students from making a decision at another school that has offered them a good deal before they even hear from UD. I’d pretty much written off UD already, but now I’m reconsidering.

So sorry for those that have not gotten an email and I thank you for posting. Your post does shed some light on the situation and a bit of a relief that this isn’t yet one more unnerving glitch in the whole process. Good Luck to everyone and March 15th can’t come soon enough!

Thanks for the supportive words. Since my D needs a money award in order to attend UDel, it’s not looking very good, even IF she receives an acceptance in March. She was so deflated last night as she checked her email for the 15th time. This is my second D to apply to college and I have to say, it doesn’t get any easier to deal with the emotions.

@k1k2k3- This is my first college bound child out of 3 and after this process I am not looking forward to the next 2. It is stressful and you feel for these kids. They work so hard and unfortunately this process doesn’t make it any easier. While I think the Internet is great it certainly provides a whole new eliminte for these kids. In my day you just waited for the mail to come and no one knew anything more than what was in the letter that arrived on any given day. Information is great but I am not sure it makes this process any easier on the heart.

At the end of the day your child will find the right place and it will all work out. I have appreciated these blogs and the ability to share the process with so many going thru the same thing. Everyone is so nice and informative.

Good Luck!

Re Honors: I didn’t apply when I first sent my stuff in, but I just got an email with this in it:

and then the question

Anyone else get this?

Congrats ye receivers of likely messages! DogsR…good news, maybe this cryptic message is the REAL DEAL! Son (underqualified for Delaware) did NOT get this email! He applied very early and obviously, not for honors…OOS.

I agree with other posters that this is a strategic move on Delaware’s part to keep the interest of their better applicants, most of which, heard back from many, if not most of their schools. Miami of Ohio who also had a late notification compared to their competition, decided to do likely letters this year in December for the first time as well.

Those of you who got the email, are you all OOS?

I’m instate and already got into UD with Honors but did not get this email.

I’m OOS. Did you get scholarship info from UD yet, raiderade?

My D is OOS and got the email and is not applying for honors.

In regards to the possible strategic elements of these emails: don’t many schools, especially selective schools to which scholarship candidates may apply, have notification deadlines after UD’s mid march deadline? I’ll be hearing from all my RD schools after UD gives me their notification, although I do have some EA acceptances. The psychological effect of this type of email is still relevant, though.

Congratulations to all of those who received the email! I’m confused though…Is the scholarship something you applied for? My D is OOS and applied for the honors program. She has a 4.0 and 2200 SAT. She didn’t receive an email (or any communication since applying in December) It sounds like the email was a type of likely letter but I’m no expert. Did the email go out to only a few people?

The scholarship was not something that you specifically apply for. To be considered for scholarship you had to have your application in before Dec 1. It apears from this thread that many people didn’t get the email so it was not random, but as you state more of a likely notification…we all hope.
