Does this mean i'm in the scholars/honors program?

I recieved a scholarship award on February 10th granting $4K a year, but no where on the application does it entail my acceptance to the scholars program. I applied for the "Scholars Program" and the award offered is a "University of Delaware Scholar Award"... Not sure whether I got admitted to the actual program.

If you recieved a merit scholarship but did not apply for scholars, did your scholarship read, "Scholar award"? Secondly, does the scholars program provide the same benefits as the honors program? Are they the same program, ultimately?

Thanks alot!

Your question piqued my curiosity so I googled Scholar Program on UD’s site. There are a couple of Scholars Programs listed: McNair Scholars and Dean’s Scholar. Did you apply for either one of those or was it something else? I know that University of Maryland - College Park has both Honors and Scholars programs that are clearly defined.

I’m not familiar with a freshman scholars program at UD. My daughter applied to and was accepted into Honors and my son chose to apply non-Honors. I don’t recall seeing anything on their applications for a Scholars program. In any case, my daughter’s acceptance on the UD portal specifically listed her major and acceptance into the Honors Program.

UD has a specific site for their Honors Program that lists the benefits, statistics, etc. I would search for the Scholars Program that you were interested in and compare it to the Honors Program to see if there are similarities.

My D did not apply to the Honors College nor for any specific scholarship and received a UD Scholar Award of $7500 per year. She was accepted into the regular program for Biochemistry. I believe that if you were admitted to the Honors College it would say so on your portal and acceptance letter. Hope this helps.

My D applied for and got accepted into the Honors College, but we didn’t get any Scholar Awards. Odd…

My D applied for the Honors College and was accepted. Also she received a $9,000 merit scholarship renewable for 8 semesters if she maintains a 3.0 GPA. I don’t remember seeing any mention of a Scholars program.

@ripwild - if you look on your portal on the right side of the screen where the congratulations message is posted you should see a section where all of the invitations, events, etc. are listed. Above this is a section that mentions financial aid. Click on that and it should bring you to a form. Seeing as though you were accepted into the Honors College I would imagine that there is a line that says “UD Scholar Award” and the award amount. This is your merit money. My D didn’t receive her merit letter for almost two weeks after it was posted. If you see the line mentioning the scholar money, you can click on it and it will give you the details.

I believe i made a little mistake… the scholars program I was actually thinking about was for Ohio State… Don’t think UD has one for freshman. I inquired and, almost obviously, If you were admitted into the Honors program, it would say it on the letter of admission. Thanks and sorry for any confusion.

No. My son is a student at UD. There is an Honors Program for freshman, but it has nothing to do with the merit scholarships. My older son got a $4000, but did not get into the honors program. My younger son got a $7500 merit scholarship and did not even apply to the Honors Program.
