I am a rising senior who plans on double majoring in biology or biochemistry AND neuroscience or cognitive science on a pre-med track.
Many of the colleges on my list are really really hard to get into (though, only one Ivy League school), and this one little thing is sort of worrying me.

I scored a 4 on the AP Biology exam. I felt really confident about the MC, but the FRQs felt more like Environmental Science to me, and so I did poorly.

I also acquired a mild concussion the Saturday before Monday's AP exam . Is this something I could tell schools to explain the score or will I just appear whiny?

So I am very good at molecular biology and all its intricacies, but the test didn't really test me on that. I got a really high A in the class both semesters (98%) and a 780 on the Bio M exam.

Will my 4 raise a red flag? My other AP scores are 5 AP euro, 5 APUSH, 5 AP Language. Thanks!

The 4 is fine. Not a red flag at all. Only 6.5% of the test takers got a 5, the second-lowest behind World History. Congrats on all your scores!

Thank you for your reassurance @skieurope!! Do you think the concussion is something colleges would even care about if I told them? I didn’t know I could reschedule my test :(

You had your answer when you posed the question. Don’t explain it. Anything else is whiny.

Does anyone have a different opinion?

Really? You’re going to be influenced by anonymous posters on an internet forum? And if the answer to that question is “no,” why are you soliciting different opinions?

skieurope is 100% correct. But if you want validation, ask a trusted adult who you actually know.

I’m with @skieurope.

I am sorry. I have gotten a lot of helpful information on this site, and I just wanted to make sure that I am getting the right information.
I don’t have anyone to ask; that’s why I posted on CC.

Fair enough, but how are you going to know that you are getting the “right” information, when you have no clue who is actually sitting at the keyboard providing that information?

I just figured someone here would be knowledgeable above to let me know. I just wanted to give it a shot to see who answered. Isn’t that what everyone does on this site?

I’ll throw my opinion in here also. Your 4 represents you on one test on one day. If you had gotten a 2, in your strong subject, it would be different, and your GC would explain the circumstances, but you didn’t get a 2. Too bad about the concussion, but let it go. DS got a 4 and was accepted at an Ivy.

I’m sorry what is DS? Thanks everyone!

Sorry, it’s short for “dear son.” Sometimes, I make believe the “D” stands for other words :-). It is similar to DD (daughter), DH (husband), DW (wife).

@sallymeno11 , btw, my son was ill when he got the 4. If he had really bombed the test, his guidance counselor would have addressed the issue in her recommendation, but as it happened, it would have been whiny.

Oh!! Got it
Yeah, that is understandable.
I don’t know if it was entirely my concussion that caused it (I got a 5 on apush that Wednesday), but it likely had something to do with it!
Oh well. I am still very happy.

@sallymeno11 , and you should be happy. Good luck; I’m sure that you’ll be accepted at a great fit.
