Does this semester really matter?

I mean im transferring regardless so is this semester important at all in terms of admission chances? I find myself unmotivated and lazy this semester because I know im not going to be here next year

Well, you still have to have a solid Midyear report.

the colleges i am applying to dont require a mid year report

Which colleges are those?

If you're accepted, you'll still have to send your final transcript. And depending on the conditions of your acceptance, you may be required to maintain a certain level of performance. If you fall below this level, they are warranted in rescinding their offer.

Indiana and Michigan

You'll want to at least pass or get a grade that qualifies to get the credits for that class transferred. Better to actually enjoy summer vacation than take lame general education classes.

What chessiestyle said. And as extrabobby said, you'll need to have grades that will get this semester's credits accepted at your new school and, if necessary, certified for prereqs/gened/major. Sometimes that requires higher grades than just passing.

So the impression I'm getting is that last semester's grades are worth (more important) than current grades on the mid-term grade report?

I wouldn't say that, diehldun.

I would say that the most important grades are those for the college semester(s) you have completed that are on your transcript.

Mid-term reports are looked at by some schools and how important they are is hard to quantify, but not as important as completed terms.

Your final term's grades, after you have been accepted, are not important for the admission decision (in all but a very few cases). You're already in. But blowing that term can have your admission decision reversed or hinder full transfer of your credits.
