Does UC San Diego consider attendance records as well? D:

Hi you guys, so this is the number 1 school I want to go to. I was just wondering, does this college care about attendance record?

I have a lot of EC's (lead a lot of clubs) and I managed my grades pretty well. haha but my junior attendance record sucks, but it doesn't effect my grades at all. I've been tardy so many times, and skipped some days of school (like today).

...Do they care ; o ; ?

thank you for all those 100 people answering this… ; ~ ;

ur skipping school does not impact your chances at SD as much as it does what kind of person you will become in the future

yes, bad attendance records will show, and the folks at SD might probably wonder how you managed to get good grades with such a bad attendance. but as SD is not an ivy league school that you need a 2400 to get into, you might/might not be accepted

but it is ultimately you, and the potential you can achieve, that defines who you are as a person. do not restrict yourself to just “SD for #1 school”. be more open in your choices, and even try to reach for better schools, whether they be name-schools (harvard), colleges that offer a personality (liberal arts), or some other private. and try your best in high school and see where that takes you. If you don’t end up going to your dream school, that’s part of the process - but what ultimately matters is how much you are willing to try. if you insist on class being a joke and just ditch all day, and still get good grades, it implies that perhaps you are not being the fullest person you can be.

I personally was rejected from my dream schools, but only after I tried my best in high school and tried new things and experienced high school.

So I guess my answer to your question is that you shouldn’t be concerned about getting into SD, but concerned more about other things (after all, it shouldnt be that hard to go to class and have ok attendance)

Yes I understand. Thanks for the insightful response. Well I came to school today finally, and told the truth. Yes, I got detention, again. I’ll try to be less absent. Well I only skip my us history class, I SERIOUSLY REGRET NOT TAKING APUSH. This class is… it’s so easy, haha. It ****es me off. No but seriously.

There was a time where I was interested in applying for the Ivy Leagues, like Harvard, and Brown, Yale, Princeton, Cornell but after seeing how much competition I had to deal with, I realized I have a more of a chance at UC’s. But still, i’m going to apply for both UC’s and IVY leagues anyways. xD.

OP,

the colleges will not see nor will they care about your attendance record.

Instead, I would worry about what your GC and your teachers might say about your record of attendance in their letters of recommendation. A comment along the lines of “OP is an intelligent student who contributed to class on those occasions when she came to class…” could be damning with faint praise that speaks volumes to those who read applications for a living.
