Does using Common App as a transfer student kill my chances of admission?

I am looking to transfer next year to Stevens as a sophomore, and I applied there on the Common App along with 2 other schools. I told my friend who goes there that I applied via Common App and he said, “Dude, you’re screwed. Using the Common App instead of the Stevens application was a big mistake. It shows them that you’re not fully committed, and they base their decisions off of that.” My math score on the SAT was only a 500, so I know my chances are slim already. I applied as a finance major. I also am likely not going to meet my community service requirement for the program I’m in at my current school, since I need to log 100 hours by May 31st and only have 20 right now, which would have been my slim chance of getting in. All of my friends agree that I’m not going to get into Stevens as a result of the Common App. Do you think this is true or am I just being paranoid and they don’t know what they’re talking about? I also applied to Gabelli at Fordham Rose Hill, and my friend who goes there said that using Common App hurt my chances at Fordham too :(.

I don’t see why this is a problem? Stevens provides a Common App link on their admissions page.

I think your math score is more of a problem as the finance program is competitive.

@rualum if a student with my exact same qualifications applies, but uses the Stevens app, would that not give him the edge? And yes, I am legitimately worried about my math score.

I really have no idea how they make their decisions.

You should always apply to at least one safety school. You want to have options. Make your best applications and then do not worry; it is a waste of energy. Believe that you will be accepted at the places that fit you best.

You still have time to apply to a safety school, if you feel you do not have one. http://blog.prepscholar.com/colleges-with-late-application-deadlines-complete-list
