Or do they look at the updated rank after the first semester of senior year?

To my understanding, they look at whenever it is you submit your transcript. Not much of any other way for UT to know your rank other than by what you submit.
Either way though it’ll probably be the gpa and rank from the end of your Junior Year as general deadlines are December 1 (Priority of Mid October for Honors) and rankings aren’t usually updated until later.

Do they look at midyear reports? Like what if I got into the top 8% after the first semester of senior year?

No exceptions, sorry. If they accepted people that moved into the top 9% over Winter break, then they’d have to reject students that moved out of it. Most schools don’t even re-rank you every semester. Unfortunately, your rank at the end of Junior year is all you’ve got.

Oh ok. Thanks. That’s absolutely ridiculous; your junior year rank is not your official class rank.

Even if I didn’t qualify for auto admission after junior year, could I still send my 1st sem senior year rank as a supplement? Would that help me at all?

Honestly, it’s not that ridiculous. Asking them to re-evaluate every single applicant 5 or 6 months after the first application was submitted is a bit more ridiculous.

I’m sorry but once your application has been submitted, that is your application. You can try to send in your transcript after the semester ends but I doubt it’ll hold any weight. The goal-line push is Junior year, not Senior year.

Why did they make the deadline 1 month sooner?

Directly from the University of Texas…(and it applies to all Texas public colleges and of course for UT 10% is really 9% for Fall 2011 applications…

So you may not like it, but it simply how the LAW is written. Trust me, UT doesn’t like it either. If they had their way, there would be no auto-admits. And the auto admit percentage for the 2011 applications, or the class of 2016 is 9% not, 8.

I graduate high school in 2013, so my magic number is 8%. :(

Then I suggest you start busting your butt. Just sayin’

A little butt busting is a good plan. You’ll never regret applying yourself when that acceptance is in hand! My younger son is a freshman in high school and I’m on him like white on rice. He says I wasnt’ this tough on older brother and I say, that I’ve learned he needs to be on the gas now until end of junior year, then he can cruise. I just didn’t know and he is BENEFITTING from this … and I’m so sure it feels that way to him … LOL!

Parent motivation can only help so much. As a student, I just wanna warn you that pushing them to work harder can make them hate it even more. Ultimately, the motivation has to come from within.
