Some schools give consideration to relatives and siblings of those currently attending. Does anyone know if Vandy gives some additional admission weight to a sibling or a cousin?

I believe they do give some preference to siblings if they are acceptable candidates. S is a senior and D is a freshman. When we went to the Chancellor's welcome in August, Dean Shain mentioned that there were something like 72 siblings in the freshman class. I don't know if all were siblings of current Vandy students like my D or if those included sibs of graduates as well. I think when a sibling applies they know that the student is likely to attend if admitted since they have had some experience on campus, but that's just my guess. I think it serves as one of those tip factors that can't help you by itself, but can push you over into the yes column if everything else is in place. As for cousins, I don't know. My D had one other high school classmate who applied and was admitted ED. He had a cousin who had previously attended a number of years ago and had her supply a letter of recommendation, but I'm not sure if that was any help.

I'm not sure but there seems to be alot of siblings on campus.

thanks, that's what I had thought but I wasn't sure. I'm sure you've got to have the grades and scores etc. but the relationship might be a tipping point.

I've already got one child there and loving it. #2 is coming up next year and it seems like almost everyone in his class is applying----hot, hot hot school getting hotter every year. I wonder how the adcom does it with so many talented kids applying.

It doesn't hurt, but is doesn't specifically help. It's more a function of children from the same family being equally good kids.

Children and grandchildren of alumni DO get an extra look.
