Does Yale superscore or not?

They have some confusing verbiage on their website.

To my understanding, they do not officially superstore, but they will take a considered and charitable view of the scores. They understand that standardized tests represent a narrow slice of a student’s life.

Yale does superscore but it doesn’t offer score choice, so you have to submit ALL scores. Even though it does superscore, an applicant who takes the same test repeatedly to improve his/her scores probably harms, rather than helps, his/her application.

From what I remember when I went to the info session, they do not super score. I read their website and I think they’re saying that they consider the highest scores of your individual sections when they compare you to other students, and not your highest composite score. They compare you solely based on your section scores, not your composite. Though I could be wrong.

I have a comment. You posted one ACT score, a 31 composite. Unless there’s more, there’s not much to superstore, whether Yale does it or not.

Perhaps you could elaborate on your stats rather than re-asking an impossible question.

This is NOT my first time asking here but I received sorta varied and limited responses the first time so I was wondering if they do superscore or not.

A Q&A from 2011 says they do not but their website currently hints that they might?

Thoughts? Comments?

It is now 2018. What colleges request/require often change with each admissions cycle, so don’t rely on 7 year old data. Whether they do or they don’t is pretty irrelevant IMO, since it’s not like you can change their policy. Just file it under “It is what it is.”

Additionally, whatever their policy is, it did not change from when you asked the question 3 days ago, so I’ve merged your threads.

While many colleges (such as Harvard) superscore the SAT, they do NOT superscore the ACT. My guess is that Yale might fall in this category, as Admissions breaks down the percentage of students who submitted SAT scores by section – both for the old and new SAT – but they don’t do the same for the ACT: https://admissions.yale.edu/sites/default/files/files/class_profile_2021_final.pdf

Additionally. if you Google “Colleges that superscore the SAT” and “Colleges that superscore the ACT” you’ll find Yale is on the list of colleges who superscore the SAT, but Yale does not come up on the list of colleges that supercore the ACT.

Thank you!
