Does Your Dorm Have Visiting Hours?

I went to college at the Univ of Maryland in the 70’s. We didn’t have visitation rules and that was 35 years ago! In fact, the university opened a coed dorm in 1968. I assumed that when most colleges made the switch to coed dorms that they did away with these archaic rules. Perhaps this has more to do with the “culture” of the south (i.e., bible belt, socially conservative). Hope I’m not ruffling any feathers.

My school is in Indiana. I’m pretty sure the South doesn’t influence them that much. Also, I don’t see why this is a problem at all. I don’t want a bunch of people on my floor at 1 in the morning when I need to sleep. There’s also that old saying, “Nothing good happens after 2 a.m.” I disagree with that somewhat, but agree with the essential principle.

But specifically about the Southern thing, I think it pertains more to whether the school is religiously-based or not rather than the region. Also, I don’t think that many RA’s want to deal with the craziness that can happen (not always, but it can happen) when guys and girls start trying to impress each other.
