One of the schools my D applied to asked for what was the best a advice she had been given - she chose my advice - Life is not fair, deal with it! - this is a perfect exaMple - I’d rather that people not be able to jump the line in admissions for because the x millions of dollars but that’s life~ don’t waste energy on something you can’t change and these are Private schools~ they have the right to to as they see fit - even if it makes many of us ill to think of it.

Ambassador Joe Kennedy, Sr. could not buy his four sons admission to Phillips Exeter.

So they had to settle for Choate & Milton. Please.

and I don’t think Joe Kennedy had 10 million bucks to donate for his children (if he did, no problem if your last name is Kennedy). And yeah, Choate and Milton…what terrible backups.

I did not say anything derogatory about Choate or Milton, two great schools.

In addition, I’d imagine that if an increase in year off numbers is detected, it may also reflect those students that received deferred admissions for the Spring semester. This seems to be an increasingly popular trend in college admissions (for several reasons that work in the colleges’ favor) and students are not counted in the fall matriculation numbers, even though they’ve received the go-ahead for January.

If you have the determination to want to go to an Ivy League, you could get into one with your current school just fine. Boarding school doesn’t guarantee an acceptance to an Ivy League.

It might make it even more difficult to gain an acceptance to one of these schools: closed campus, more competition, less chances to distinguish yourself. But there’s a huge gain of life skills you gain at B.S. too, so weigh it.

We’ve decided not to try bribing to the top BS, instead just go to the ones that accepted me. Thanks so much for your feedbacks. They really helped us in terms of making this decision.

and I am not a Kennedy. My dad is just a successful businessman but we aren’t royal in anyway.

I really agree with 98beebee’s comment. It makes sense since college aren’t simply picking students from the top private schools. Doesn’t really matter which school. I come from.

But then the more I think about it the more I wonder: what’s the point of going to a prestigious boarding school? Sounds like one can benefit more by being the best student at an average school than being an average student at a top school.

Thanks again for all of your comments. Frankly the reason I wanted to go to the top BS is because I wanted the feeling of entitlement, I wanted to brag about being in Andover or Deerfield. But you’re right I obvious don’t deserve it.

You made the right choice. It would not be remotely fair or just if you bribed the schools to get in. To answer your question (What’s the point…), though: it probably doesn’t make a huge difference for most people, except the feeling of entitlement; however, it’s great to be around so many others who are motivated and brilliant etc. And then there’s stuff like Exeter’s math team which is the best in the country and stuff like that. But unless you feel that you would fit into one of these schools (you would not struggle academically), you should feel no regrets.

So we’ve decided to go to Williston Northampton. It doesn’t have good average SAT scores and stuff according to boardingschoolreview.com. But me and my dad visited the school yesterday and it’s so pretty. How is that school? It’s obviously not so prestigious but looks friendly and perhaps caring.

I see some BS rankings and it says it’s like third tier with schools like NMH and better than schools like Cushing?

I like the school but I’m not sure about their academics. They have a really high acceptance rate compare to my other accepted schools. So what do you think? Should I go there? I really want to but if I’m going to a BS i want to make sure i’m going to a good one.

and btw they seem to have fairly decent college matriculations. Lotta ivies compare to many other schools.

Williston Northampton is a great school! My D applied and was accepted there. Ultimately, she decided to go to another school that was a better fit for her but I think you need to re-adjust your attitude.

Plus you’ve just said some very negative things about a school you visited yesterday. Not so smart.

If you have SSAT score about 60th percentile, you can find A LOT of schools.Tabor,Berkshire,Wyoming,…and so on.Not only HADES.Lawrence Academy is good too.If you donate and go to Andover, maybe you will get worse

What about williston northampton? I was accepted at Tabor and Lawrence. But I would like to know more about williston?

How did this get to 75 posts? Many of them being sincere in their nature?

On altogether related note, I’ve got some swell admissions software that I’d like to sell many of you…

D’yer, I was serious. The kid had $2m. Imagine how much good that money could do… Unfortunately, he was discouraged by many more posters from “buying his way in”. Darn, it’s so close…

Dwyer – the fif (new title, slightly more grand) is planning a trip to France next summer. Maybe we could get together and compare software. the fif is confident that WBTY still rules.
There are plenty of people here who might be interested…

^^yep, you’ve got the elitist part down.

D’yer and FIF–where IS that thread? It needs to be resurrected, but I can’t remember the title.
