Don't want to retake, but bad scores...

So the scores for the May SAT were just released and I got a 580 on lit (:[) and a 740 on US. I'm happy with US, but obviously not pleased with the Lit score. I really don't want to retake them since none of the universities I'm applying to actually require them for admissions.

My question is will a 580 Lit and 740 US possibly detract from my admission to any of the UC's, Claremont Mckenna, or University of Chicago? Or could these scores still be seen as a good thing?

you dont want that 580 to be a significant score (by significant, I mean top two scores, since most colleges that require them require two). UChicago will not like that at all.

Are you going to take AP Lit this year? If yes, I would retake in October. If not, then I heavily suggest taking another SAT ii.

yeah I forgot to say, I recommend taking another. Math has become a quasi-requirement, so I would take one of those

I already took the AP Lit test this year (which I am very sure of a 5, thought it was my easiest test).

I’m going to retake the SAT I in October. Is November too late to retake the Subject tests if I need?

November is good for any RD deadline in the country

They’ll probably dismiss that 580 as a fluke then. I assume you wish to major in some social science, correct? Then I would suggest taking a language SAT ii if you’re pretty strong in grammar and verbal comprehension in that language. I agree with FutureVpFinance, the Maths are quasi-requirements.

^ Yes, Econ/PoliSci. Lol… I really don’t want to retake them. And Math would be a very bad idea haha, trust me. It’s annoying since my highest score on the Reasoning test was Critical Reading AND Lit is probably my strongest subject. Well now at least I see why CCers avoid Lit -__-

I guess I really want to know how admissions officers at those aforementioned schools will see those scores.

Did you take any practice tests? You should do a few and see if your score raises. If not then let it be and don’t submit that score. Also, if you plan to major in Econ then you should def. take a Math SAT.
