OK, I'll admit that this a dumb and obsessive question. Good. Got that out of the way. Without bed risers, how many inches is it from the bottom of the mattress to the floor? How about the measurement of the space under the bed--shortest point, which I assume is the bottom of the bed frame? Also, there isn't any box-spring, right---just the mattress? And, finally, I assume the regular dorm beds are the same in all the dorms across campus, right? Thanks from just your normal OCD mom.

I'd guess that it's about 10 inches from the bottom of the bed to the floor. I'll measure for you later when I get back to my room.

In Ellicott, both ends of the bed frame are high (whereas in Denton one is high and one is low), so a lot of people flip the bed frames to get more space underneath. I've found with bed risers I have more than enough space under the bed...which just makes it easier to put EVERYTHING under there. But the actual size of the beds are the same. Only South Campus Commons have bigger beds (full size!)

Well, I'm glad someone else brought up this topic. I've been wanting to know since reading the brochure from the residential life office if the dorm beds are regular twins or XL?

the beds are regular twin size

Get Bed Risers!

Yes, we already have some, but I'm trying to figure out how much space she'll have; will probably need to get some storage crates, but I want to know what to plan for. And then....have looked at some comforters, etc. and put a dust ruffle on to hide all the crap she'll stuff under the bed...(that's why I need 2 measurements....from bottom of mattress to floor (for dust ruffle) and clearance from bottom of bedframe to floor for the storage things. Thanks. (Hey---I said I was OCD from the beginning).

astrophysicsmom-- i recommend storage drawers, as opposed to crates. makes it easier to pull things out in a hurry, and they stack.

cant you get your beds lofted?

Yeah, it's like 100-something bucks for the year or semester or something like that to get your bed lofted, and then you have a TON of space.

Wait, you have to pay the university to loft them rather than bringing your own equipment?

Unless things have changed since last year- I thought anyone who could figure out how - could loft their beds.

are the beds like regular or are they extralong ?

They are regular sized.

There's a lofting company that will loft the beds, but I think the university will do it too using an extra bed frame (though who knows, they might be short on those with the whole situation)...if you wanna bunk your beds, that's up to you and your roommate.
