Dorm bedding

Hello-- With my daughter traveling cross country to GIT, we need to buy as much as possible in Atlanta. What is the word on Residence Hall Linens and their products? Is it a good deal to use them? Or, can the 80 inch XL twin sheets and bedding be purchased at a local Bed, Bath and Beyond or Linens and Things? Are the closest stores in Buckhead? Do most students lift their beds and store underneath the beds? Are feather beds recommended for decent sleep? Do most have a tv in their dorm room? What other purchases would the experienced student recommend in our situation? Are cell phones enough? GIT recommends the land line with answering machine. My daughter has opted for the newer dorms on the west side of campus under Freshmen Experience. A lot of questions, I know. Help!

Hi Issy Mom, I'm a freshman living in the dorms right now for the Freshman Summer Session. I'll try to answer some of your questions.. I've only been here three weeks, so older students feel free to correct or add on to my responses.

I purchased my XL sheets at Bed, Bath and Beyond and they fit perfectly. A quick google search pulls up the nearest Bed, Bath and Beyond in Buckhead.

From what I have seen, students mainly have their beds lifted with their desk and dresser underneath. However, this is not the only configuration. Some people opt to bunk their beds and stack their dressers to have room for a small couch or futon. There are a few combinations, especially if you have a larger room. My room is 15 x 11 and I have some room with my bed lifted and my desk and dresser underneath.

I have a foam mattress pad on my bed, and it feels decent to me. Most of the rooms I have seen have a TV. My roommate bought a phone with and answering machine and caller ID. So far, I haven't used it much. I had to provide my room # when ordering pizza, but that's all so far.

I hope I helped a little!

I lived on West last year under Freshman Experience. Montag was not a new dorm though. Sheets from BB&Beyond fit my bed fine. I think everyone had a TV - work it out with your rommate. We had TV, Frig, Micro, Xbox, shower curtains for our closets, futon under my bed, extra shelving for books, stereo, alarm clock, phone with answering machine, rug for floor, tubs to store extra clothes. Dresser is very small 4 drawer, desk only had one drawer and one shelf. Cork board for wall above desk, too. Once you get roommate phone number, give them a call and work it out. I was 12 hours from home and my roommate was international, it all worked out for us.

What's with the shower curtain for the closet? No doors on the closets? Are the closets about the size of the wardrobes we saw on east campus during FASET?
