Dorm Cable?

Do we get HD programming at all? Any way to upgrade for a fee?

you can get HD programming by antenna for like the broadcast channels like NBC, ABC, CBS and such...

you can get over the air HDTV. the cable is just basic analog cable, so no digital or HD channels.

^ actually, there ARE digital channels in dorm cable.

4 is NBC (analog) and 4.1 is NBC digital.

how do you get to 4.1?

you buy a digital converter its like 40 bucks

you only need that if you have an old TV. mine tuned right to it.

Is there anyway I can buy HD programming? I really will miss my CNN and Discovery in HD >_<

haha lame I know...

To get 4.1 (HDTV) your TV will need an HD tuner either built in, or if you have an older model, provide an external one. You won't get the over the air broadcasts automatically, you will need to scan what channels you get after you connect your antenna.

The only downside to this is you'll have to switch back and forth when you want to watch SDTV and HDTV, since channels received over the air is very limited.

To watch CNN and Discovery Channel in HD, pay for your own cable service from your pockets.

we have a vizio? i think that has HD tuner built in...

lol thanks but I already knew that. My TV already has a built in tuner.

But so we are allowed to pay to get cable hookups in the rooms? Do you know what services are available? (Comcast, Time Warner, AT&T, Verizon, etc..)

It's the default UCLA cable that has most of what you want, except Disney Channel...

ive never heard of anyone paying to get cable. the cable provider for the school (lamont campus televideo) isnt even the same as the one for the rest of westwood (time warner).

Hmm I googled that provider

HDTV - Campus Televideo - Your Higher Education Cable TV Connection

They seem to have HDTV but I don't think UCLA has that option. Oh well, I'll settle without it for a year or so. Hopefully UCLA will get with the tech soon...

No Disney Channel?!?!???? :(
