Roommate and I got a Samsung HDTV yesterday with build in HD tuner. I've scanned the channels multiple times and I'm not getting any HD channels. Even where it says 4HD in the corner for example, it's definitely not HD. Most people I've talked to said they got a 4.1 and 4.2 or 7.1 and 7.2 (7.2 being the HD version of 7.1) when they scanned however, we aren't picking any of these up.

OP being in de neve means he's not getting his TV off-air, so why are we talking about antennas?

make sure you have your TV settings right. read the user manual. 4.1, 4.2, etc DO exist and they are digital channels and you do get them. not sure if they're HD but they looked pretty damn clear on my TV last year.

I was saying that UCLA's cable service does not offer HD - so anything you get from the cable in the wall will not be true HD. You can, however, get a few HD channels via antenna, but only a few over the air channels actually broadcast in HD.

Most of the major broadcast stations will broadcast in HD now, at least in the peak hours (anytime past afternoon). You will hardly see SDTV or EDTV broadcasts on Channel 2, 4, 5, 7, 9, 11.

Amurai, your problem should pertain to the antenna. Over the air signal will be picked up depending on which angle the antenna is pointed towards (some channels will have a wider range than others). Instead of moving it far away, try rotating until you receive an image. Make sure your antenna is connected correctly ...

No I am not getting digital. I know 4.1 and 4.2 exist, I'm just not getting them. I'm getting 12 over the air channels just no HD. Thanks for all the info guys.

It may be a hardware defect with my antenna. May swap out the tv.

you're not picking up any digital channels at all? check your TV settings or something then. do you have it set up for cable instead of over the air?

Make sure your coax cable isn't connected from the wall to your TV. If it is, your tuner shouldn't pick up HD because it can't read two sources.
