Dorm choice

Any one feel like giving me a good subjective rundown on the different houses? Some insider information would be awesome (i.e. don't pick "x" house because all the wacked out CS kids live there; pick "y" because it's really close to the best place to get some food)

For freshman year, try to get Morewood E Tower. Big rooms, it's very close to the University Center, there's an eating location with the best hours on campus in the basement, all-freshman, laundry facilities on each floor, etc.

Other good dorms...New House is all-freshman, has air conditioning and it's a very new building, but the rooms are among the smallest on campus. Donner House has some of the biggest rooms on campus, but everyone who doesn't live in Donner hates it because it's an ugly building and there are dumpsters outside it that smell bad. Mudge House also has pretty big rooms, but it's kind of far away from campus. Hamerschlag House is all-freshman, but also all-male (and the rooms are small, poorly-lit and odd-shaped). I think that about does it for the freshman-only areas.

There are also some "specialty" residence halls. Henderson has a wellness program that requires residents to participate in wellness programs and take a vow to be substance-free. Welch has 24-hour quiet in effect. McGill is all-female (the only such dorm on campus). There are also some off-campus apartments, but I wouldn't recommend those to freshmen because they force freshmen to have a meal plan, which is very inconvenient to use if you live off-campus.

They tend to put the "wacked out CS majors" on one floor, and folks like you on another...Each floor has a personality within the building. For example, in Morewood E this year, the 3rd floor guys are party/pranskters while the 4th floor is much more quiet. The 5th floor of girls are quiet and a little antisocial, while the sixth floor is fun and the sassy seventh is CRAZY. So which ever dorm you pick you'll be with people of similar interests.

Do any of the residence halls have carpeted dorms? I LOVE carpet.

All the ones I've been in have carpet except Morewood A-D Tower.

"I LOVE carpet."

What the....??

I love lamp.

Sky rockets in flight

BTW AcceptedAlready: are you nocturnal or something? I have an excuse, I live in Germany right now. But you should seriously be asleep.

how about other Morewood towers? do a lot of freshmen live there?

Morewood A-D is actually a single building, and as far as I've seen the floors in the rooms are bare wood. E Tower is freshman-only, with carpeted rooms. Other freshman-only areas are New House (air conditioned), Donner House (except the top floor) and Hamerschlag (male only). All of those have carpeted rooms.

I think that the distribution of craziness in E-tower this year comes mostly from chance. The one exception is that all of the H&SS/Art double majors (whatever that program is called) live on the 6th floor. They do match people with roommates of the same/similar major if possible, but I don't think they do the same for whole floors.

I've heard this rumor that the H&SS kids are the "cool" ones, and that you'd be doing yourself a favor to try and get roomed with them. Is this true?

i had essentially shortlisted the following options:-

-Morewood E Tower (Standard Double)
-Hamerschlag (Standard Double)
-Donner (Standard Double)
-Morewood A-D Towers (Prime Double)

how should i arrange them considering cost as the prime factor and then the size of the room....i guess i dun really care about the a.c....

Do you care about all-male?

nope i guess it isn't that big a factor....

All standard doubles cost the same, which is less than a prime double. Of the dorms you've listed, Donner has the biggest rooms, followed by Morewood E. Hamerschlag has fairly small (and odd-shaped - trapezoidal) rooms. A-D has rooms of many different sizes, so it's hard to give size comparisons.

TheLastStop, I don't think that's very true. It's unusual to choose who you room with freshman year - the only instances I've seen of people doing that is people from the same high school who knew each other before coming here.

i like donner too but how much extra will i have to pay since it has a.c.?....my top choice is still Morewood E....2nd probably Donner....i'll have to figure out the third one amongst the standard double accomodations available....

Donner does not have A/C. Price does not depend on what residence hall you're in (the on-campus ones, anyway) except Resnik and West Wing, which freshmen don't have a shot at getting into anyway. All standard doubles cost the same.

Morewood..is that co-ed floors? Or guy, girl alternating floors (i'd prefer the first, easier to meet guys)

And also, how difficult will it be to get what I want (i'm thinking morewood right now, lol, i wouldn't mind being on teh floor with the CS crazies ^_^) if I'm responding after April 16th (when they're supposed to get back to me about my request for mroe financial aid).

And uhmmm, if it is difficult, would it be bad to enroll while asking for more money so that I can enroll....

I enrolled and asked for more money -_-;; lol

I'm a male and want morewood e too. Donner's my second choice even though ppl say that it smells.
