Dorm room for freshman year

Are there rooms freshmen are limited to or can they get any room if they request it soon enough? Thanks!

I spoke with someone at food services last week as I was setting up my son’s housing contract and information. She said that this year, incoming freshman 2014 were allowed to choose what dorm they wanted for the first time! That will be the case next year as well moving forward. Really great!

@SpartanDrew‌ , would you please recommend, which dorm is nicest? And I would also like to ask, is it possible to choose the quiet and alcohol free dorm? Thanks

@boswic you are given the option to chose quiet/alcohol free when you sign up.

IMHO if you have the option Shaw or Snyder-Phillips are probably the best places to live on campus. Good locations and nice cafeterias.

Has anyone that has accepted admission received housing information yet?

Agree with The Spartan in dorm halls. My son plans to be at either Case on the honors floor or more likely Wilson as he will be in the Core engineering program. No news on housing other than signing up for it.

Thanks @TheSpartan‌

My son lives in Shaw this year, it seems to be primarily upper classmen. My daughter lived in Landon (West Circle) her sophomore year and it too was mostly upper classmen.

My son is in Shaw this year and really likes it. Last year he was in McDonel and I thought the suite bathroom was absolutely disgusting. MSU obviously doesn’t like to do any upgrades…I’m not sure I could have taken a shower in such a dark creepy shower. He is liking the community bathrooms in Shaw:)

I have looked on multiple pages at the MSU dorms and I have seen mostly lofted beds. Is it a requirement that your bed is lofted?

@samlynnmay the beds come pre-lofted but you can adjust them so they’re lower.
