hey guys
I'm an exchange student as a senior in UCI this year
so no doubt
I will be staying in the dorm

I got q a lot of q
hope u guys can ans me

I want to know more ppl
so I guess it is better to stay on campus housing?!

I heard the weekends are socially dead...
so which dorm is less dead on the weekends?!
coz I can't stand to be bored every weekend as I dun have cars!!

which dorm has better social life eg. outgoing students, better parties at all?

I wanna know more ppl of different races. Which dorms have more diff races? coz I do want diversity!

What can I do on the weekends

so my main concern is just mostly about social life
I do hope I can fit in right here and got bunch of friends even tho I'm just an exchange student!

In order to meet people, dorms are the way to go.

Middle Earth seems to look more active to me than Mesa Court. I barely see any people around when I walk around MC

I would also think ME. MC people seem like they’re always out for themselves. However, there is a specific dorm at MC where I heard that parties get crazy and people are really active (forgot the name).

It varies between dorms. I’m not sure if there’s a direct answer for that.

You can take some UCI shuttles to Newport Beach and Irvine Spectrum. There’s a lot to do at both places. Or you can look around the UTC (University Town Center) that is located across the street. The actual UCI campus is actually pretty lonely on weekends tbh.

Seriously, with no doubt apply to Middle Earth. Best decision I’ve ever made. I feel most of the Resident advisors are active and are able to do their part. Theres always an event happening everyweek. The social life at ME makes you feel like your part of a family. In other words, the dorm is family-oriented with your floor. Always leave your door open if you want people to pop in for a random conversation.

Wait are you a transfer student? I wasn’t sure what you meant. If so, I would suggest you to live in Arroyo Vista. Middle Earth and Mesa Court are more for freshmen.

I think every dorm has its partiers, you just have to befriend them. There will always be other people around during the weekends too, so you can hang out with them.

Apartments are totally different than dorms.

Dorms: You essentially live in a “house” (dorm) with 16-30 other people, share a bedroom with only 1 other person, and share bathrooms with a handful of people. When you’re in the dorms, it’s easy to just lounge around your hall and find other people who aren’t doing anything to hang out with. I would also think that RAs do events to help bonding.

Apartments: You live with like 3 other people, share a room with 1 (I think if it’s Campus Village), but you’re friendship circle provided by your living situation is limited to those 3 people.

However, if cost is a big issue, or you know you’ll join clubs and actively befriend other people then you should live in the campus apartments.

I lived in the dorms Freshman year and I believe that dorming is something people should do if they get the chance. I think it could help you develop as a person (not something TOO life changing, but little things like social skills), but also create some good memories.

My 2nd year I lived in Vista Del Campo (so the not “campus” apartments [but not on-campus]) . I found it much more difficult to meet new people compared to the dorms. I mean, I noticed people easily get along with the neighbors sometimes, but usually it’s just over superficial things like partying.

I don’t know what Arroyo Vista is like though, since people are no longer freshmen, but I would hope the open social atmosphere is still there.
I know there’s a transfer house in Arroyo Vista, so I think that’d be a great house for transfers. There’s also “International Village” which I assume other exchange students may choose to live at? Or at least there should be a diverse group of people, but I don’t know for a fact…

I don’t have a car yet and it can be a little restricting at times. You’ll have to find someone to go with you to get your groceries - unless you just take the shuttle and go to Albertsons. I’d say it’s a bit different, but if you have friends who will take you places then it’s manageable.
I’d say a decent amount of people in AV do have cars though.
