Dorm Life

Can anyone tell me about dorm life at Penn?

when do i get to decide on which type of dorm i would wanna stay?

If I remember correctly, it was shortly after the RD decisions were released. By shortly I mean between 2-6 weeks. I can't remember whether we sign up in May or June. I think it was May.

Your first choice should be Quad.
Your second choice should be Quad.
Your third choice should be Quad.

Avoid Hill at all costs unless you are an engineering student, weigh 300 lbs and can't walk more than a block.

There's a housing application link in the Decisions website. If I remember correctly, we have to submit our app before May 1 if we want to be considered in the first round of housing assignments, otherwise there's no guarantee we get housing at all.

So far, my preferences go like this:
1. Riepe - double
2. Ware - double
3. Fisher Hassenfeld - double
4. Hill - single (I know, I know... BUT they say it's very social and friendly for freshmen... and I'm also an engineering major, so..)
5 & 6. Still undecided. I'm considering the high rises, because I've read several threads in this board about people complaining that Kings Court/English House are really aweful.

Any current students please feel free to share your experiences, tips, whatever... I'm sure any insight will be very helpful to us, Penn 2010! :)

How hard is it for me to get a single?..in a decent dorm?

im going with the same as lipgloss..
my first four options are same,
im thinking of the high rises as well for no.5 and 6 but as far as i know not many freshmen stay there.... so its not a very good option.. though i kinda like the one BR/LR/Kch idea :p

If I could do it over again, I'd put Fisher 1st, then Ware, then Riepe. That's the best order based strictly on the number of rooms available in each of these college houses. I also feel that's the run down for room size and quality (and also views of the quad interior during Spring Fling, if you're lucky to have one), but people have different opinions about it.

can anyone tell me about the residential programs?.. is it fun? whats it like??
im applying for the healthy living prog. at fisher and maybe the freshman experience program if i apply to harrison..

jill carroll needs some plastic surgery

vidushi, your boyfriend is so weird

mengcheng...............
umm who are you? lol
and why is my boyfriend wierd?

Residential programs are not a big deal- do not rank this highly at all in your consideration process.

yeah, as everyone has been repeating, your first three choices should be Quad. Overall, given everything, and especially when the weather is nice, nothing trumps the Quad.

However, I personally feel that Hill is awesome (though I live in the quad), cuz the construction and setup of the building is wayyy more conducive to social interaction. Small rooms, giant hallways, lots of common rooms come together to form a great community. So don't fret about Hill, it's sweet. But of course, this is from a Quad man's perspective, who can chill at Hill all the time, then come back to my huge air-conditioned room. Nice.

damn, just tell aman to stop staring me down all the time.

what are people's opinions on gregory?....the info in the booklet made it seem nice, but i haven't seen many discussing it on here.

You're right - people who live in Hill and speak up don't hate it. Sociality is probably a little better there, although there are too many engineering students in the mix.

Jess, I had a great time living in Gregory, but palatial it aint. If you live there you'll have an instant bond with your housemates as you commiserate over the general dinginess of the corridors and the lack of overhead lights in your room. Rooms are decently sized though, and you are guaranteed your own private living space, although you'll most likely end up in a quad or a double suite - the privacy was the most appealing thing for me.
It's not the quad, obviously, so the people there are different from your typical quad kids, but most of them choose to be there. I'd say that if it sounds good to you, you'd probably like it. Like attracts like, and all that.
The language programs are good too, kind of an exception to the rule of residential programs as people do tend to participate, especially if they're living there for credit.
And, of course, the house dean is adorable.

is there any difference between the buildings in the quad?

i put HILL AS MY FIRST CHOUCE

what THE FU***K _______

thanks lauraanne
