Dorm life

Hey everyone! I’m part of class of 2022 and was wondering about dorm life.

Is there a kitchen in frosh quad?
Can I keep snacks in my dorm room?
Can I vaccum my dorm room form time to time? Will vaccum cleaners be in the dorms?
Do I need to bring my own hair dryer?

I’ve read the Bell Book but does anyone else have any tips/advice for me? Or just stories?

Thank you!

My daughter is also class of 2022, Sorry but I do not have your answers. Have any alumni reached out to you yet? My B already has a group that she can ask any question and get an answer. There is also the FB group. Just some other options for you to seek the answers to your questions.

For questions like these, I recommend the student signing up for the Williams FB pages, including their incoming class and the general page. I also recommend family/guardians signing up for the incoming class specific FB parents pages run by college admin Rob White. He staffs them with parents who have already gone through all this to answer all questions. It’s really helpful and is used year round for everything from room provisions, travel, calendars, shipping, storage, health and more. The new one will probably be called “Williams College - Families of the Class of 2022.”

@asdf400 Congratulations on your acceptance to Williams!

I can help with a few questions. My daughter is in Frosh Quad this year.

No, there isn’t a kitchen, but there is a kitchen in another building that is available to use.
Yes you can keep snacks in your dorm room. Some kids have small refrigerators.
Yes you can vacuum your room. I’m not sure if vacuums are available. If this is important to you, I suggest bringing your own. My daughter has one that is like a dustbuster on a stick that she says works great.
Yes you need to bring your own hairdryer.

Other things…
The dorm rooms in frosh quad are pretty small, but you’ll also have a common room that you’ll share with 2 (maybe 3) other students. Most kids move their desks out into their common room so that they can unbunk their beds (if they’re in a double). This also allows you to have storage under your bed, which you’ll most likely need!
Bedrooms are carpeted. Common rooms are not.
Common rooms typically have a sofa and a chair or two.
Usually 6 kids share a bathroom (situated between two common rooms). These may be co-ed.

That’s all I can think of for now…
