I thought I'd post this for any future prospective students and parents looking for information about Mount Holyoke...

My daughter moved in last week and her dorm room is incredible. She was at first disappointed because she'd hoped to be in one of the architecturally gorgeous old dorms around Skinner Green, and ended up in MacGregor, on Upper Pond, instead. But it is incredible. I wish I could post a photo here. It's a large double with two walk-in closets. There is an enormous bay window with a window seat almost large enough to be a bed: it looks out over the lake and trees, so this lovely view dominates the room. There is a built-in double dresser with a vanity top, little shelves for makeup/jewelry and a vanity mirror on one side of the room, and a floor-to-ceiling bookcase on the other; plenty of space for the two desks, and about 5.5 feet between the two beds. It's lovely.

Her other first-year friends also all have nice rooms. Some are not quite as large and some roommates share a closet, but I have to say that Mount Holyoke's dorms seem to be among the nicest around!

My D also lived in McGregor her first year. Your post brings back memories. I remember driving her thru the main gate on check-in day. I remember the song on the radio and my eyes filling with tears of pride. While her first year was filled with ups and downs, her dorm situation was always a high point. (MHC matched her well with a room mate). This was Ds first experience living in true four season environment. As the seasons changed she’s send me photos of “her lake view” late summer rainbows, fall colors, snow storms (lots of snow), the first hints of green. Dorm life at MHC is somewhere between “homey” and “hotel” and absolutely head and shoulders above any of the other schools we toured.

D spent senior year in Ham, MacGregor’s ‘twin’. Overlooked the lake. Other years was in more traditional dorms at MHC. They are all gorgeous. In Mandelle, she had a single with her desk placed in a bay window! Plus, as some may not know, every MHC dorm has a grand piano and a grandfather clock in one of the common rooms. These dorms would be destroyed if they were co-ed.

I lived in MacGregor Hall as a junior and senior. It is wonderful indeed. The views of Upper Lake are endlessly fascinating. It even has a rooftop sundeck which may be used as a study hall during appropriate weather. In order to get to class, students must walk by one of Mount Holyoke’s three waterfalls. What’s not to like?

I think pictures can be posted under campus visits. I have posted some of other schools and I think it’s helpful for those who do not have the opportunity to see the campus before applying. Sounds Lovely!
