I think I am going to accept admission at Northwestern and was wondering which dorms had the most active social life and whatnot?
I am a heavy sleeper and can be quite loud at times...

Suggestions please!

If your an engineer/science major, or an athlete, stay in Bobb. If your humanities major, Allison would be a good choice. Also, check out this website. It has some good info about every dorm at Northwestern.

[Freshman housing guide » North by Northwestern](http://www.northbynorthwestern.com/2008/05/10826/housing/)

Yea, Bobb and Allison are pretty good choices. If you are big on having a strong social scene, avoid Slivka and to some extent, CCI. Shepard is also a good choice if you want a residential college

Slivka has an extremely strong social scene, it’s just not the same type as other dorms. You get a lot closer with people inside the dorm rather than outside. There are still people who go to frat parties too, it’s just not as common.

Any suggestion dorm for arts and science freshman student?

q, Picking a dorm has VERY little to do with the school you are in (unless you are a science student and your #1 criteria is a dorm close to your classes), and being in Weinberg doesn’t qualify you for one dorm over another since Weinberg is HUGE and diverse. You’re better off looking for a dorm that fits your interests, social desires and personality. (And if you’re going by the school you’re in, at least mention a major :P)

What about a dorm for an econ major? I am open to living on either side of campus but it sounds like many econ classes are in tech so that would put me up north. I want a very social dorm that maybe i could eventually sleep in haha. I think Elder is my top choice. My mom does not want me at Bobb-Mcculoch (from the rumors she heard). Any reccomendations???

Please don’t choose a dorm based on parental concerns-- you’re in college now! Choose what is right for you. Rumors and reputations will always be around but IMHO they are exaggerated. Not to mention that Elder is pretty much Bobb lite, so if that’s your top choice, Bobb should at least be somewhere on your list.

Also, many Econ classes are in Leverone (next to Kellogg) which is decidedly mid-campus. Proximity to classes shouldn’t be a main concern, you will have classes all over!

dfleish, I would love to just ignore my mom and I do on many things but she is paying for my education so I sort of have to cut her a little slack. I was thinking of putting Bobb on as like my 3rd choice. I was wondering which side of campus you live/lived on and if you felt one was more beneficial than the other? Obviously, you are closer to parties at north and the city on the south side. Anything about the people? I have heard that the artsy tend to gravitate towards south.

south hinman is the way to go from what i have learned.

I don’t mean to hijack the thread, but the title’s pretty general and it seems like a silly question for its own thread, sooooo
Do any of the dorms have working fireplaces?
Totally serious question.

I’m leaning towards South Campus res colleges or 1835 Hinman, if anybody wants to add anything about any of those.

Is Sargent boring? Because Bobb seems like I wouldn’t be able to study if I wanted to but Sargent seems like I couldn’t party if I wanted to.

I am in McCormick, so I want to stay on the North, and as close to Tech as possible.

It’s just hard to say because stereotypes are so perpetuated, but your individual experience will, I guarantee, be different. Like yes, people in Bobb like to have fun on the whole, but I promise you will find time to study. And south has more artsy people due to proximity to theater classes, and arts-themed res colleges, but it’s not really lacking for parties. So you really will be able to find something wherever you end up.

That being said, I ended up in Willard, which I found to be a great balance between social and educational but I wished was a little less cliquey. I think Allison would be my ideal dorm in hindsight but I loved my two years in Willard.

What about Sargent? I really like it because it is new and clean, but I don’t want to be bored all of the time or have to walk home from Bobb everyday.

Is it social at all?

Fireplaces? Anyone?
