Dorm Situation-!!!

Hey,

I will be a freshman in the fall of 2008! Does anyone know when we find out our roommate because online it says August 11th, and when my parents went to parent orientation the Director of Res Life said August 6th?!!? Also, does anyone know how freshman can get football tickets and I know that they are popular so do I have to rush to be the first to click the submit button at midnight or is the stadium big enough that I don't have to go paranoid for tickets?

Thanks

It says online that we find out on August 11th but I guess it is possible that it could be released earlier.

As for tickets I believe that we are guaranteed tickets to football games but I'm not positive. We can sign up for tickets starting on August 1st.

You are not guaranteed football tickets. All students have to request tickets online.

You aren't guaranteed football tickets but I have not met a single person in 2 years who has wanted one and not gotten one. They never fill the 10K allotment. Basketball tix on the other hand, you have to make sure to GO TO EVERY GAME! DO NOT SCAN AND LEAVE! SCAN AND LEAVERS ARE THE BIGGEST SCUM TO WALK THE CAMPUS!

I would hate to see scammers for bball, b/c there are many alumni who would love to attend, but can't because there aren't enough tickets and due to the demand, tickets @250 a piece.

I heard about the whole scan and leave thing that students are doing and it really annoys me. There is no reason why the Comcast Center shouldn't be full for every conference game and every big ooc game. Students need to show more support than that by going to and staying at all games until they are over. I'm going to be incredible ****ed off if I don't get Duke or Carolina tickets this year after going to every game because others cheated the system.

I think they should make students scan when leaving also to see how long they stayed at the game. Maybe that could help solve the problem. I guess its probably unrealistic though.

I agree...it should be like a metro ticket during the game...set up so if you leave within 1 hour of the gates opening you need to scan back out! I can understand it would cost alot of money to do retro fit the scanners, but I think that the bball team brings in enough in revenues to do it!

All they need is to get out of the stone age and get RFID cards like every other college out there. The fact that they still issue "swipes" instead of Infrared IDs is unbelievable to me. If we had RFID cards they would simply need scanners permanently set up at the doors and as you leave, you just touch your card to it. So simple.

@testudotheturtle

Do you know what your talking about? I certainly don't, infrared? RFID stands for radio frequency identification. I work for NASA where all the badges use this "great" RFID technology but they have to do a complete overhaul of their security system because RFID is inherintly insecure! So getting out of the stone age by compromising your privacy is a great idea.

In the future please be more well informed on the subject before you talk about it -- This just makes you look stupid.

lol, you joined just to post that.

man, I don't know all the technical terms, but I do know that a ton of colleges have switched over to IDs that you just have to wave over sensors. If that isn't RFID, then whatever. Same goes with EZPasses and Metro Smart passes. I don't give a flying **** what they technology is, it just works.

Insecure in which ways? Our IDs contain no sensitive info so I don't see what they problem is... especially since plenty of colleges have deemed the technology worthy of their IDs.

So again, good for you, you know the technology behind it. Bravo. My point stands.

Your right, I did join just to post that. Your right, you don't understand all the technical terms, therefore you don't understand the technology and have an uninformed opinion. Do you really want people to have you UID, and be able to use your UID to access areas restricted by UID? And yea, our ID cards have never contained any personal information, except our SSN. I don't trust people with my personal information and am surprised that you do and would just allow the university to radiate it. Go ahead and do it, but i personally would refuse.

I guess you don't realize how useless and accessible our UID numbers are.

ALL I KNOW IS THAT PLENTY OF OTHER SCHOOLS HAVE DONE IT WITH SUCCESS. that is all I need to know.

And to prove how little YOU know, name one area that can be accessed solely by UID? I'd love to hear it.

Dorms -- Any where you access with your ID card could be accessed by any person that has the information on your card.

They could also spend someone elses money at the dinner.

So yea, go along and think because someone else did it, its a good idea, but think about the repercussions.

Like it is hard to get into the dorms? Are you being serious?

You would have to engineer your own card for this ever to work because you can't just give them your ID number. This would also work with the system we have now so it is a push. Anyone right now, if they have the knowledge, can engineer a fake ID and use it at the diner. Finding out a valid ID number is as simple as checking your test scores because that is how they are usually listed.

The sky is not falling. Your baseless reasons are laughable and the flaws that you are pointing out are the same flaws that are already present. For any of this to work you would need the resources, ability, and drive to actually create a fake ID. Either RFID or magnetic swipe, fakes are always possible, but so unlikely that the system goes on.

So please, just stop.
