Dorm supplies question

I got an offer from Brown University for getting Dorm supplies (like sheets and comforters and pillows, etc.) through RHL.

Now I’ll be staying over at my mom’s friends house for 10-15 days before coming to Brown. They stay near Albany, NY.
So would it be best to buy through the RHL thingi or do the shopping for the above things in Albany?

just go to the store and buy some twin xl sheets. a twin xl fitted but the flat sheet can be twin regular

but i thought you already went to brown judging from your posts in the other thread

No, I'll be joining as a freshman this fall. What made you think I already went to Brown?

Brown sells your address to people who are looking ot make money off of you. Don't buy any of the **** they mail to you, it's all more expensive.

ditto what modestmelody said, plus, the quality is awful (i heard the sheets feel like paper)... ur better off going to the bed bath and beyond up here (10 minutes away) and getting anything u need (bed bath and beyond has a thing where u can order it at another store, perhaps ur local bb&b and then have everything shipped to u where u pick it up at the providence bb&beyond -- really convenient and a great way to beat the mad rush)

"Harvard, Yale and even Cornell offer online subscriptions to all of Springer's journals for all years while Dartmouth and Brown only have online subscriptions to Springer journals from 1997 to present which basically precludes offcampus access to the pre-1997 journals. Brown does not have a subscription to journals like Nature Physics, etc. - again not insurmountable obstacles but little things that make life a bit more difficult."

That's why.

Well, these days through the internet you can check and explore anything and everything.

minus whether you go to brown lol

sid_galt: you are very well prepared.

My school did the same thing. Just buy extra-long twin fitted sheets from Target or Bed Bath and Beyond or wherever you (or your parents) normally shop. The flat sheet (one without the elastic) doesn't have to be extra-long, I'm told, but many sets come with both.

The jersey ones are really nice. They're stretchy and soft and comfy.

Go to Seekonk, MA (about 15 minutes away) when you get to Brown and go to Target (Walmart = evil, obviously). You can also go to Bed Bath and Beyond or JC Penney in the mall, but it tends to be more expensive. Don't go through RHL or whatever.

Target generally puts out lines of stuff for dorms around September, even catalogs about it. They can give you a lot of ideas.

Some things to get (I find this stuff useful, but I also pimp my dorm room out to a ridiculous degree :) (Jason did you ever see my fabulous creation of a dorm room?)

-XL sheets (I personally don't reccomend the jersey ones but that's just me, a lot of people like them)
-Bed risers
-Under-the-bed storage totes
-A fridge (having one is cheaper then renting every year, and it's super handy)
-A bedside table
-If you have a ton of clothes you can get a portable hanging rack thingy (the clothes rods in the closets tend to be small)
-A shower caddy
-Shower shoes
-Bath towels and hand towels
-Brown provides a pillow that I actually find quite comfortable, but one of those if you want
-A TV, computer speakers, and a comfy chair if you really want to pimp it out
-Food like crackers, bottled water, chips, etc.
-One of those tall plastic drawer units
-An area rug (really warms up the room...tile floors are icky and you never know what's burried in existing carpet, if there is carpet...but I think most rooms are tile) (There are some people who sell carpet remnants on campus during orientation and the beginning of the school year, and for much less than it usually costs to buy an area rug. That's what I have. Area rugs are expensive)
-Posters / Tapestries, Art, Wall hangings
-Pictures from home
(very important) a large piece of plywood to put under your mattress and a foam pad to put on top. If your mattress is abysmal, which it may be, you can get a different one from Facilities (I didn't know this my frist year)
-Desk lamp
-Desk accessories (pencil holder, etc)
-Floor lamp, depending on how much light you like
-Throw pillows or nick nacks or decorations that make you feel at home :)
-Depending on where you're from you may already have a down or down-alternative blanket, but if not, I reccomend getting one. They are comfy and it gets cold...
-If you plan to do work in a chair or your bed, then a lap desk
-Those hanging things that store sweaters or shoes, or some other kind of shoe organization stuff if you have a lot of clothes / shoes.

Remember, your dorm room is your new home so make it comfy / personalized. I'm not talkin about spending oodles of money (clearly this stuff costs money and all), but about being creative. Also, make sure to consult with your roommate BEFORE buying things. If they already have a TV or have some kind of phobia about area rugs, then that will change what you buy (p.s. there won't be room for 2 tv's, 2 fridges, two rugs, etc, unless they are really small. And there's no need.)

In addition to stores like Target look on Craigslist or the Daily Jolt Marketplace, you can get some of this stuff used for cheap. That way you can avoid spending oodles.

Also, the bookstore sells a lot of picture frames and posters and decorations, but it's expensive.
