Well that’s a pretty relevant question since R+B is often 60k+ over 4 years.
But anyway, explain to her that living separately helps students gain independence, is associated with higher grades, etc.
Also, work with her to fill out net price calculators. What state do you live in? I’d suggest running them for your state flagship, the local commutable college, and a couple of meets-need colleges in your region (they’re all over the country, but that way you could be close by). Colleges that meet financial need are all pretty selective, but based on your GPA you might be competitive at those schools. Depending on your income, it could be the same price to attend one of those schools on campus as it would be to attend you local college off campus.
Start prepping for Sat on khan academy, spend 3 hours a day on it (am not kidding - a high score will give you so many choices but it’s hard to get in one go and it requires a lot of practice beforehand) and register for the September act AND the October sat. Ask our guidance counselor for fee waivers if your income qualifies (check online). Your fee waivers also work for one more sat in November and one more act in December, plus sat subject tests in December if some of your college want that. (subjects : English literature is close to act reading and Math 2 close to act math so it’s a good choice and add a foreign language or a science if you’re good at them.)
What’s your income ? Under 75k ? Under 125k ? Over 200k ?
In your search engine search for "100% need colleges " .
"Thanks! It’s nice to get positive feedback instead of “How are YOU going to pay for it?!” Anyway, to un-confuse you, she knows I have to move out sooner or later. So she wants me to save money and buy an apartment when I am done with college. "
The most important thing about living in a dorm your first year is this is the time you make most of your friends. On average you have better grades and become more independent. Getting great scores should be your main focus. Scholarships will be your best weapon in getting your mom to change her mind. I may want you to stay home but saving 20k+ a year would change my mind really fast.
