dorming without a car?

so my parents told me that if i wanted to dorm i wouldnt be able to get a car, which sucks because i heard that there is nothing to do in riverside and a car would be great because i could drive to la, the beach ect. do many people at ucr dorm without cars?

Well, I can’t tell you the exact statistics, but some do, and some do not. There are things to do in Riverside. You should take the bus (UCR students ride it for free) and go to the surrounding places. I believe UCR’s website has a list of places which one can visit. Or, feel free to “google” it up.

A lot of people don’t drive. My friend left her car at home because she didn’t wanna pay for a parking permit. BUT… of course, it’s more convenient to have a car. I really think a car isn’t necessary though… there’s not much to do here even if you did have a car.

With a car you have the opportunity to go to LA or the beach… but it’s not like you would do that during weekdays… Besides… an hour drive back and forth… you’ll get tired of driving everywhere pretty quickly. hahah

Side note: During the weekend, the dorms are really question because a lot of people from socal go back home.

You can always just rent a zipcar to borrow for a few hours. I think the rates are $8 an hour or $60 a whole day. Split the cost with 5 friends and it isn’t too bad.
