Dorming

Hi. I just got admitted to Berkeley and i am HAPPPPPPPPY and so excited. I was wondering what the dorms were like in Berkeley and how many people can dorm in a single room. I want to dorm with two of my friends... Also, are there plazas like there are in LA, where the rooms are nicer than the ones in regular residence halls?

Doubles or triples. If you're lucky, you'll get a double; many of my friends got screwed over and ended up in singles. Dorms are pretty standard. If you live on southside in Units 1-3, the rooms are pretty dang small. They all have beds, desks, chairs, etc. Foothill, on northside, has big rooms, but the food is worse. It's also more expensive. There's Bowles Hall, which is on northeast side. It's the oldest dorm on campus and is all male. Finally there's Clark Kerr Campus, which is a large campus about 15 minutes southeast of campus. The rooms there are huge and the food is absolutely wonderful (especially weekend brunch). It's the most expensive and many people complain about the distance from school. Don't even think about getting a single - they're for RAs only.

Wait most people get singles? I want a single. And is getting a good dorm dependant on the timing of your housing app or is it mainly the luck of the draw?

"Wait most people get singles?"

I think the poster might have meant triples. I personally know a lot of people in Units who are stuck with triples.

Yeah...most freshmen get triples. A lot of people (like myself) got the undesirable all male/female dorms (Bowles/Stern).

Uh yuck. I prefer singles and coed dorms.. :(

oops. I meant triples......that was a brain fart. Sorry. Most of my friends ended up in triples.

Ok is getting a good dorm dependant on the timing of your housing app or is it mainly the luck of the draw?

It's a random lottery.

Damn. Last question: Is it gauranteed only for a year or two? And what do most people do if they don't get housing? Rent an apartment in Oakland?

Do Regent's Scholars have a better chance at a double in the building they want?

I am Regent's too and heard there's no Honor's, no housing consideration or anything.
