Dorming

Hi, I'm going to be a freshman next year and I had a fairly generic question. I have the option of dorming in a double, triple and quad. Three of my friends are optiong for a quad together and asking me to join in. Is dorming in a quad a good idea, or would a double be better?

You might consider going in blind unless you have lived with your friends before. That way it will make you have to go out and meet people instead of latching onto your friends. Dorming is a great way to work on your social skills instead of using a crutch like your friends. It’s possible you will get a crappy person if you go in with a random person, but it’s also quite possible you won’t be friends with the three once you are done. Seeing your same friends everyday isn’t all it’s cracked up to be.

I agree with Cryto. You may enjoy your friends company now, but living with three people day in and day out, while trying to make the grade is tough. That, and college is a time to experience new things, including new people. ALthough staying friends with your current ones is important, it’s always a good idea to find someone new, who may enjoy your other friends as well, and dorming with someone new is a great way to met that person.
However, if you think you would do fine with your friends, give it a shot. You can always change it in a year if you don’t like the situtation, or keep it, depending.

Thx, that’s what I was thinking, but even if I dorm with a stanger, would a quad be better than a double? I’ve heard too many roomates makes living kinda hard

When I was choosing, I went with a double, as I didn’t want to risk getting 2 roommates who became best friends, making me a “third wheel” of sorts. (This is just my reasoning. Nothing to back it up other than my personal thoughts on the matter.)
